The best web directory ever!

    Ladies and gentlemans,

I plan to open a web directory. I have two goals:

1 - to build the best* paid directory

    *best:

    a. web 2.0 design
    b. new functionalities [!]
    c. to offer more than any other directory offers now

2 - to be number one with my web directory

    MY QUESTIONS

1 - What would you pay for? [Which are those features which would you make to pay a 100 USD one-time fee?]
2 - How about getting 1 + 100 links? [1 link = the main link on your page + 100 links = the possibility to build 100 links to any URL you want - 10 pages: 10 links/page]
3 - How about having the possibility to exchange links with the members of the directory?

Please comment the up-mentioned ideas and make other feature/service proposals.

    Thank you!

Targetted traffic. I would want to know that the majority of the fee would be reinvested into promoting the directory. Bells, whistles and Web 2.0 stuff doesn't appeal at all - most of that is just needless distraction.

I think it is a good idea as well. However, unless you have a budget that is out of this world you are going to have a hard time selling those links for $100, but what the heck, go for it, it never hurts to try something new.

I would pay that amount if the site was putt together well and was 100% seo friendly. I do not buy links in directories for traffic because I know that most of them do not send much, the way I see it directories are only good for helping you in the serps and help build your page rank, although there a few that provide good traffic.

I think would be a good option to have a year fee of for example $35 and the options for permanent for $100

To be quite honest, I would never pay $100 to be listed in any directory. You might want to lower your goals a bit. :)

My idea is to give webmasters a "tool" with more than one function.
If you take a look at the majority of the current web directories, they
offer you a single link's placement and, eventually, the possibility to
    modify it.

My interest would be to offer a web directory where those who already placed a link would come back over and over.

Therefore, if the directory would offer [at least] 101 linking possibilities [the main link + 100 links which can be traded with other directory members]
I think that it could offer permanent activities for it's members.

    JUST THINK ABOUT...

If you'll need a very fast link to a site or a particular page of your site,
you would log in in the directory and place a link. I think it would be a great
    possibility.

Anyway, I'll think about all details, to make it as attractive as possible.

    PAYMENT

The payment won't be 100 USD without any justification. Yes, the income's
signifiant part would be used to increase the directory's link popularity.

Oh well I saw the title and thought that you were talking about my directory :( :D

    Now seriously
1 - What would you pay for? [Which are those features which would you make to pay a 100 USD one-time fee?]

    Two things.
    1 Traffic
2 Trusted links (Yahoo, DMOZ, BOTW, JoeAnt) which you obviously cannot provide with a new directory so I would focus on the first, traffic.

ROFL... maybe he is the owner and saw the referal traffic and is back to DP. :p

    edit:

ok read all posts. dirctorydump.com will better than anything said/mention in here. Just like how activeweblinks.com set the standard for phpLD, directorydump.com will surpass it. Mark my words!

Now, if I can only find the time to get away from clientel to work on my directory :)
I am figuring maybe 2 months time(at the moment) before I can open it.

ps.s - my directory is not just front end, it's backend as well. user and *owner* dynamic scalability with ease.. oh yea!

Directory value depends on a number of things, but as people here have mentioned, targeted traffic is key. I know of a new directory that has worked out a network of different sites to display their search bar. I'm not talking one or two pages, I'm talking thousands(You guys may know what I'm talking about.). This guarantees targeted traffic...
