If something better than vBulletin comes out, we would switch to it. We have no loyalty to vBulletin, it's just the best product out there right now.

There are lots, but not all are great quality or easy to use.

I'd say IPB 3 and vB 3 are the best right now. vB4 is just plain outright terrible.

If I saw DP using vB4, I might just stop posting and leave.

vB4 isn't terrible, it just needs work (as does vB3). I've written ~250 plug-ins for vB3... if vB3 was perfect, I would have needed to write 0 plug-ins for it. :)

The last few days I've been working on updating the color and tweaking some things in the vB4 style. It's amazing what a difference it is cosmetically when you actually use colors that actually contrast each other. I've already rewritten all the plug-ins we use here (with a few exceptions that I still need to address).

In my opinion I think Vbulletin 3 is better just because it's simple and more customizable, but Vbulletin 4 still has a while in till it's done so, we will just have to see.

I haven't messed with vB4 enough to say any thing about it yet, however from what I can tell IPB3 is a huge improvement from the previous versions of IPB. I've never liked IPB forums but forums that run IPB3 are decent.

vB4 doesn't look bad in my opinion and if I had to choose I would still pick vB over IPB.

Can't wait for the upgrade :).

I was reading about that on your twitter account, it sounds like DP might be running 4.0 within a few weeks?

Have you find out a way to sort out that scrolling lag problem that there is in vb4?

It must be such a huge task with all those plugins in place ... Ive got just 3-4 plugins on my tiny little board and I find it too much work already :)

Hopefully, but no set date... just when it's ready.

    What scrolling lag thing exactly?

I'm looking forward to this, I'd love to see DP implement the upgrade. I'm a bit iffy about using it right now, it's radically different from VB3.8.7. Lately all of the designs have just been revamps of the VB default, which I guess wouldn't matter here since all Shawn did with this theme seems to be logo and colors lol.

Shawn are you going to make a cool new theme for us?? Or is it going to be a "DP-Green" version of the new VB Default?? :p

I really hope DP doesn't go 4.0. It's just crap.

I rather see DP stick it with 3.8.x until no updates/fixes are made anymore.

Considering how many changes Shawn makes personally, I doubt it'll be crap. If he thought it would be, he probably wouldn't upgrade.

We are definitely going to run vBulletin 4 at some point, and I've been spending most of my time these days working on getting it ready.

The reason we haven't already deployed it is there still is a fair number of bugs in 4.0.1.

Obviously there will never be a point that it has zero bugs, but I'm not going to prematurely deploy it while there are pending bugs that are big enough (in my mind) to hold off.

These are just the bugs that *I've* reported (there are hundreds of others of course too):

    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/proj...ctTools_Issue&projectid[]=6&user=digitalpoint

So yes, as you can see from the list of bugs I've found while getting it ready for an upgrade (these are just the ones that other's have not already found/reported), I've been busy. :)

going on to vb4 will be a tricky decision at the moment
for some odd reason even though I purchased vb suite, I can't make up my mind to upgrade - really not impressed with style is 1 reason though
I might have been expecting some thing out of the blue from vb team as I was a pretty good vbfan, but my thoughts have changed a lot since the vb team recruits and drop outs

As, Shawn seems to be pretty good with the codes, he might be able to tackle it out well better than me or my friends
After noting dp on vb4 I will make a final call for few of our vb forums, vb4 still has some bugs really need to be addressed for atleast for few of or forum basic needs

Shawn, r u planning to open up blog allowing mods atleast from the suite ?? This will be interesting to watch out for, if u intend to do so ;)

sounds great mate, gotta check out what the dp team is going to post about, as its a very occasion when at least half the team takes part in a discussion away from a staff lounge ;)

my suggestion to you would be to enable blog commenting only after some sort of human verification (if u intend to allow commenting), just like we have down here for threads - captcha or any other dumb tool atleast, I already started viewing lots of spam on vb4 blogs with in a month of the release. And for god's sake no self promotion links in blog.

dp, just for clarity on my above statement, I meant the no self promotion links only regarding strictly to the blog comments and not regarding the staff posted links.
