DoFollow links and NoFollow links

Hi all I've been told on another forum that when I'm link building I should make sure that not all my links are just DoFollow links. Forgive me if this self explanatory but what is the difference between DoFollow links and NoFollow links? And how do I create them? I'm assuming the links in my signature are DoFollow right?

DP signature links are do-follow. The difference is that do-follow links pass PR juice to your site and change its position in SERP. No-follow links can bring traffic to your site, but they don't affect your SE rankings anyhow.

Of course either way you're gaining a backlink. It's true that DoFollow links are much better to achieve for your website, but if you can get a few NoFollow links they're both good, either way just try to gain many backlinks!

I don't agree with you mate. NoFollow links can also help you in SERP if it is having less OBL and is there in niche related page.

From all this, I'm getting that the individual can't control which type of link it is. It is basically up to the person controlling the site whether they set their links as Nofollow.

That's right, @!nd!an is spot on you can get link juice from both dofollow and nofollow links. Bing does not seem to respect nofollow which is good news for those struggling to find dofollow links.

When you make comments on dofollow blog, and the search engine spiders crawl that blog post, they will follow the link to your blog, and crawl your blog post.
If you make a comment on nofollow, then the search engine spiders will not follow the link to crawl your blog post.

hhelen is right and scheng1 is totally wrong. It doesn't matter if you leave a no or dofollow comment. If you leave a nofollow comment, you won't get any link juice to your website - but the Google bot still will visit your website and index everything. When you leave a dofollow comment - you get the link juice from that page. It's as easy as that!

Thanks for your comments people. So really it doesnt completely matter if i dont have too many nofollow links. How do you know if your link is dofollow or nofollow? Is there anything to look out for that tells you this?
