301 multiple domains to 1? Best practise?

    Hi,
I have 1 site and many domains that are similar in name. Just to make sure that I covered all my bases. for example: My_name.com, my_name.de, my_name.ch and so on but also: myname.com and myfurthername.com

Now the question(s): Will it be a problem from the SEO point of view to redirect all these domains using a 301 to the "real" domain? Or should I write a quick page with just one link saying: "What you want is here"?
Should I make a distinction betwenn all teh pages that have the same name but not TLD and the pages that just have a similar topic?

There is no time to fill all these pages with seperate content...
I look forward to your opinions!

I have also bought 5 domains and i used 301 redirect to all of them. Can i use the http://www.google.com/addurl/ for this 5 domains to get indexed or its not allowed from google to submit domains which are only used for redirect??

    Thanks

You should keep each domain live and throw up a basic WP site with some simple content and link it to the main site. This way you have a good chance of ranking each site for your name when someone searches it. This is called proactive reputation management. You can dominate the search results for your name if you do this effectively.

Having keyword redirects and misspelling redirects pointed at your optimized site is good seo. You just need to get the indexed and your idea would work but I find that using a. Social bookmarking. Site like delicious.com where you have room to leave a descriptive title, description and keywords. So yesn bookmark your redirects.

301 redirecting other variations (misspellings, ccTLDs, etc) will ONLY help your main site's SEO IF AND ONLY IF those other sites being redirected have inbound links... and really only if they have inbound links with link text that is applicable to the page on the main site that you are redirecting them to.

The only other way redirecting variation domains helps is that it "might" bring you some microscopic amount of direct type-in traffic if people just happen to misspell your domain name or just happen to guess that there "might" be a site with your name and their ccTLD.

Other than those two cases, buying domains only to redirect them is worthless from an SEO and/or traffic perspective.

You don't even get credit for any boost for exact match keyword domains once you redirect them. The 301 redirect tells the search engines that the URL with the exact match domain name has permanently moved - in other words, "Remove my old exact match URL from your index and replace it with this new URL." So any old domains aren't even in their index once the 301s have been recrawled... so the target of the redirect ("your main domain") will NOT get a boost in rankings for search phrases that exactly match the redirected domain name.

People waste their time all the time chasing this dream of a quick way to the top...

If you want to utilize multiple domains for SEO, you have to build out content on all of them... and they will be ranked independently. You can interlink them IF they are relevant... but I would not over do it. You don't want a manual review from Google as a result of one of your competitors reporting you to result in a penalty to all of the interlinking sites... 5-10 sites are fine to interlink if you own them all and they are relevant... More than that and you start getting into a gray area where it's up to the Googler who is reviewing your site (and their subjective opinion) as to whether or not your sites get penalized for participating in linking schemes and/or building a link farm

Let's not forget the cock blocking aspect of buying a domain so that nobody else can develop it. I have also noticed in Google's webmaster tools and the list of keywords. That are associated with my domain reflecting a few of the words that were in a few of the domains that I had redirected to my site. I do not believe this to gain some serious rank but it could be just that little upperhand that you have over your competition.

I personally set myself a budget of $300 per year to keep up with some key domains that I have, this is a small amount of money to spend to give the domain game a good college effort!
