I know how to SEO a site, as a 1 time thing.... and I'd like to sell that service through my web design company. But I've seen some companies offering SEO services for a monthly fee! How can they POSSIBLY find enough stuff to tweak to be doing it for months at a time? I'd like to add SEO to my list of available services, but I'd like to hear from others about how your small business offers their SEO?
No offense but if you know anything about SEO you should be well aware it's not a one time deal. Aside from on page factors there are just as many if not more off page things to deal with.
would you mind elaborating a bit? I'm aware that buying a link on the right site can make a big difference. Who's budget do those purchases come out of? Do I ask the client in the beginning how much I'm allowed to spend for them???
For a one time fee, you could do on page SEO for them, get some good one way inbound links, submit articles to ezinearticles.com and goarticles and do a PR. I guess you could have several of these packages, I mean, one package would get 10 PR4+ links and other would get more etc.... I don't know though it could be confusing for your clients when you do the various packages deal.
Jim With our staff of professionals (3 of which worked for major SE's) it takes countless hours and an obssesive-compulsive mentality to knock the ball out of the park for a client. Perhaps... we expect too much from ourselves but I agree with m0rtal...if we took your approach to our 90+clients ... we'd not be a professional SEO firm... we'd be far less.
Well, yes you do . You can't spend more on links than they pay you can you? Most companies ask for a link building budget, and that's when monthly fees come in, because those links have to be paid monthly sometimes.
Thanks for the responses guys, they helped clear things up a bit. It sounds like you start by asking for a monthly budget that for how much you can spend for them. I don't want to stetch myself too thin with this service, so i think i'll look into offering this as a onetime service, and the only updates I would make later would be renewing any link subscriptions etc.. Think this will work at all?
To be honest: no. You could tell your clients that you make sites that are in their basics fit for good SEO, and you could help them get some incoming links. But good SEO involves research into your clients product, their competitors, continuous tracking of rankings etc. etc. You can't optimize a site once and think it will keep it's high rankings forever by just renewing some link contracts.
That's not true. For websites that are set-up for SEO and being well maintained and updated with content can achieve/maintain good rankings. I have had clients that maintained their high rankings long after i stopped working for them. Another good example is this forum. Do you think shawn has a full time SEO making sure that this forum ranks well for "SEO forum"? I'll bet you that he doesnt. And it still ranks number four in google for "SEO forum".
Totally agree. I'm no SEO expert but I conducted a one off exercise for one of my clients using the basics of SEO and then instructed them on how to move forward. They're #1 in Google for 3 of their top key phrases and in the top ten of around 15 others. Sure they work in a specialised market but #1 out of 2 million results isn't that much of a niche. I imagine at some point in time (probably when I need to pay the rent ) I'll give them a call and suggest I conduct an annual review but I honestly don't see what can be done on an ongoing monthly basis.
I agree with you guys that sites like these, and others which regulary add quality new content don't need that much SEO. But if you're in competitive businesses and your opponents are doing SEO all the time as well, improving their sites etc. etc, you need to keep up, or go down...
