Hi For those who submit to directories, how many do you submit to daily? I believe Google may penalise a site if submitting to lots of sites at the same time?? So what is the recommended number? 5 a day? 10 a day?
Theres no need to put a limit on it if doing it semi-automatic, like using a form filler. Any suggested amounts are plucked out of thin air, suggestions that penalisations come from submitting too quickly are myths.
I find fault with this argument. I do not think it matters at all.. If Google really penalized a site for having too many back links or getting them too fast, I could screw people by just submitting their sites to tons of directories, right? The reality is, none of us has any control over incoming links. The most google could do is: 1. Penalize the site linking in. 2. Simply discount the link all together.
You can submit to as many directories a day as you want, this will not hurt because those listings will not be added at the same time anyway so you should be fine.

If the general directory is of high quality you may gain something from the link in the right cat. all these general directories you see every day are of no use to you really, they never get/pass pr 1 in 1000 may send you 1 visitor. (and it still wont be targetted to your niche) I had a site listed in almost 700 directories and recieved no traffic, and there was no upside to having those links. A long time ago. I say dont waste your time/money unless you know your going to benefit, check your competions links and see what directories they actually show on the SE's for. Chances are if there not listed in the se's for your keywords, they wont help you at all. (long tail keywords)] Highly unlikely they will be there for prime keywords.
hi theyoungpretender, long time no see to answer the OP question, i assume you are talking about free directories, submitting doesn't meaning "getting in" instantaneously , and when u are finally in, you have to wait for the Google bot to find the link, you can submit to 100 directories daily and end up with 2 or 3 indexed links per day which is safe and good, but like the youngpretendersay, not always useful.
it depends on how much time you have and how are u doing it, usually 300-400 per day is more than sufficient but you have to see that u will hardly get 10-20% approvals on that day.
The search engines are always on the look out for unatural link patterns. If your site has had no new links for 6 months and then all of a sudden you get a hundred in a week you may trigger a manual review. For example here is a comment from Bing's site. "The number of inbound links suddenly increases by orders of magnitude in a short period of time." "When probable manipulation is detected, a spam rank factor is applied to a site, depending upon the type and severity of the infraction. If the spam rating is high, a site can be penalized with a lowered rank. If the violations are egregious, a site can be temporarily or even permanently purged from the index.â€

I submit 100 a day and generally listed 40 of them but their pagerank value is 0! Search engines will index them on different time intervals so the submission, accepptance by directory, indexing by search engiens are all different time intervals. Directory submission helps especially if your keword is niche specifis though. Otherwise as a visitor to your site... they simply means nothing
