Do you add your blog posts to multiple categories?

Just wondering if people add their blog posts to multiple categories if they fit in them or do you just add to the most relevant one?

    For Example:

I have just written a post about FREE Anti-Virus Packages.

I have two possible categories; Computers and Software and/or Freebies and Bargains

Would you add the post just to Computers and Software or would you add the post to Freebies and Bargains too?

    Thanks in Advance :)

I'd personally add to both categories.

Since you have tags too, I'd create tags such as "Free Software", "Anti-Virus Software"

If the post is relevant to more than one category then I do add it to multiple categories.

I only have ten or so categories (for a four years old blog with 430 posts). I tend to keep categories more general and narrow down with tags.

In your case, I'd probably add to both categories but I rarely do that, I'd rather keep them separated.

This is what I do as well. In some cases a post will be relevant to multiple categories and I will list it in each without hesitation.

If you add it to multiple categories you'll have duplicate content, a big no-no with Google.

I add it to both if it fits into both. I also use tags.

In the past there was an issue with duplicate content when posting to multiple categories(and even then it was debatable) -- Now it just isn't an issue. I even recommend posting to mulitples when you can.

if it makes sense to your readers do it. But you have to ask yourself why you would create categories so similar that you would display content twice. that in itself is confusing to readers.

Google does NOT penalize, they filter. They decide which of the two pages is important and which is not.

dont do this unless you know what are you doning, make the categories nofolow else the big G will consider duplicate content and will penalize you for that. read some seon before you do this.

I'd add it to both categories, as long as the content's relevant.

I often wondered if Google penalized for this. Excellent question, thanks for the insight.
