this one is driving me crazy.. i have 2 similar automotive classified sites that get about 700 page views per day.. but one averages about 15 times more adsense clicks than the other site.

the 2 sites are Celica Trader Online and Honda Trader Online

the honda site gets about 15 times the clicks as does the celica site - not to mention the clicks are worth more.. the celica site i think has a much nicer design - but maybe i'm wrong..

can anyone help me explain why the honda site gets so many more clicks?

    thank you.

In addition to what policywala said, there's an extremely annoying lightbox ad that pops up on the celica site that I couldn't get rid of (I don't want to click on it) before you even have a chance to click on a Google ad.

I didn't get that ad on the honda site.

it just hit me that you might mean the exit pop i have on the celica site?? that ad only shows up when you move your cursor to exit that site.. i just put that in about a week ago - but the adsense clicks didn't change at all after i did that..

No this box is showing up as soon as you enter the site. Its locked and I cant remove it, Acts like spam or a hyjack script. Lighten up that dark blue backround and go with white. Bet youll get more clicks. Cant read the black, or is that the idea?

do you mean the blue background for the site??? i've tried that and the white inside backgrounds don't blend in well.. and i'm not sure what you mean by 'cant read the black'..

also, i went through the coding and there doesn't appear to be any extra hyjacked code and the box doesn't appear for me.. what browser are you using??

thanks.. yes that is the exit popup that should only show up when the user moves their cursor to the URL bar - in other words tries to exit the site..

wow.. really?? when does it show up for you?? and why do you think it's a bad idea?? it doesn't pop up any new windows and shouldn't show up unless a user moves their cursor up to leave your site..

Well it appears for me as I wasn't leaving, and it's generally a bad idea to show something as I've already made the decision to close the window or move to another site, it is just a sure way you have that I'll never visit your site (any site doing that) again.

Your first site makes me dizzy, too many colors, I especially dislike that Ads by CB Ad Rotator, it does not fit in the whole background, so if I am a visitor, I would leave your site right away, not to mention click on the ads. BTY, I do not like the background color.

However your second one makes me feel comfortable, the first ads on the top looks like navigation, if I wanna know more, I would click on them. And the ads at the bottom fit very well, the color of the anchor text is nearlly the same as the background color, so I would say it's fairly good.

So IMHO, your second site is much better than the first one, no wonder it receives more clicks.

I don't think either of the designs are really "great" to be honest. I don't mean to bash your websites, they do work and the designs definitely aren't bad, but I wouldn't claim they are good or great by any means. However I can see how the Honda site has more clicks, as the ads are blended it which could make them look like navigation links. Along with the other links on the site being confusing, it's easy to get mistaken and click an ad thinking it's a link or offer

do you mean that 1 line with the yellow background?? that would make you leave the site??

not to mention click on the ads. BTY, I do not like the background color.
what color would you make it?? lighter colors i've tried look horrible because of the layout of the interior boxes.

i'm assuming you mean the HondaTraderOnline.com site here??

you you don't think the ads on the Celica site are blended well?? How would you blend them if it were your site?

    Thanks.

You are absolutely right, it looks good, and if I were a visitor, more likely to click on them. You have much less ads on this site.

    Hope it helps.

Works now, great. No pop up as soon as I enter the site. This will surely get you more clicks now. Good Luck

To me the Honda website looks more compact. Whilst Celica website has too much free unused space in the middle of the page

The themes on your website aren't too appealing. In the end, I wouldn't really bother looking at your website when I can go to a reputable website like AutoTrader and know that I'm not going to have to go through a scam.
