I think Forum Posting & Social Bookmarking Best way to create effective links and if possible try to get back links from your relevant sites it's very effective.
Remember dont over do it ! lots of different sites and methods will keep you on track try not to have a main site and make the most of all, and when your there stay there !
I agree with this guy. Yahoo! Answers is great for backlinks, while I don't feel like forum signatures are as good since almost everyone has a signature with links. Blog Commenting and Article Marketing is good too.
All of the above. There is really no reason to not do a little bit of everything as traffic can come from any of those sources.
Include directory submission in there as well. As far as Yahoo Answers goes, it is a nofollow so you won't get any powerful backlinks, but you will be able to gain a good amount of traffic.
to answer your query: none of the above. If you focus on second party traffic ( e.g. traffic generated by second party sites): Yahoo answers, forums If you focus on top rankings for your own site: high page rank links, RSS links, article submissions. Does it make sense?

Link Value: ( I will try my best). Let's say that I have a site about live matches. English premier League plays twice a week, it would be very hard and time consuming to optimise a site for all games. I would just post on Yahoo answers and social sites ( digg, diigo, webmarks...) and show up on front page for a short period of time. This would get me razor targeted traffic. SECOND SCENARIO If my site was about "website designj in Austin Taxas" , I would just optimise a static site for those keywords. In this case, I would use a variety of links, not limited by the above/ Does it make sense???
any back link from any type of website with a high ranking in search engines is probably a powerful backlink.
It is said .gov and .edu domains are the most potent back-links. So trying to get a few of these can be worth your while.
From my experience, Article submissions as well as publish good content (unique & fresh) are the powerful backlinks and which help for quicker increment in google serp too.
