Everything you just said has nothing to do with determining whether they are a monopoly or not.

Competition does only one thing in search engines, hurt the user. Everyone's going to use Google no matter what. Especially since Bing is literally the same thing as their Live search.

    @ ck.exe

    1) I've been using it since it got release with no problems, even up to 20 tabs on occasion.

    2) Even if Google sponsors their own products, which you have given no evidence for, the reason you give is to increase adsence revenue. This is exactly what Google should be doing for its customers!

I'd like to point out that many people are looking at Microsoft, one of the biggest monopolies to ever exist, to topple what they call a monopoly in Google. I believe it's good that Google continues to grow, so we can see continued competition between Microsoft and Google (Chrome OS and windows, Bing and Google).

Monopoly is a hard word to use for google but this is the direction they're going to.
Right now they are securing various market segments, they buy technology or even competitors.

Also, somebody said something like "google products are not that bad as MS ones". Really? I don't think so. Take gmail for example, how many times did it crash, this year only.

Anyway, competition is good, it stimulates progress :) .

Far fewer times than your Windows computer crashed this month alone. Gmail had outages in some areas for about a half hour three times or so in a year. How often did the power go out at your house this year? How many times did you get disconnected from your phone call this year?

I think that is rather pointless argument as when any of those things happen I, at least, cannot access Gmail anyway.

The point is, GMail crashes far, far less than most other services anyone uses.

I guess a "second google" would help because competition is always good, but i'm not as cray about it as some people here :D

All a second "Google" would do is use vast resources on a second rate service. Their are alternatives, and they are used - but the fact that the worlds two biggest search engines are owned by Google indicates its success.

Innovation is always good however, and sites like WolframAlpha, while in their infancy, are always welcome.

maybe we are on different worlds :)
gmail crashed a few times this year (look for info on mashable) and with it other services too.

I use google services every day but I think that they are far from their initial goal "don't be evil"

They are going in the same direction MS was going some years ago and they are doing the same mistakes.
