    30 - 60 %
of niche related keywords is always good.

Just dont make them all the same keyword.

    LOL.

If you can maintain the efforts that your competitor are putting then you can also start for it

Don't worry about keyword density. That will just get you in trouble.
Look at the other weaknesses on your competitior's site and exploit that. We are talking about backlinks, keywords in the Title meta tag and Description tag, bolding etc etc. That is how you will beat them.

    When in doubt, Google it.;)
Basically all it is, is the relationship (percentage) of the number of times your main keyword or keyword phrase appears on your web page. It is calculated using the total number of words on a page. So you take the number of times your keyword/phrase appears on a page, divide by the total number of words on that page, and then multiply it by 100.

Depending who you talk to or read, 3 -5% is the range where you want to be in most cases. Sometimes 2% works well.

If I were you, I would not really worry about it. It will cause you more trouble than want you want or need. Just do the basics and the rest will take care of itself.;)

If you use Firefox for your browser, you can get the SEOQuake addon. It will tell you your keyword density (at least in part). People are right - you don't want it too high as it is obvious - called keyword stuffing and the search engines don't like it.

There is a fantastic completely free resource out there.
Just Google the term "Dupe Free Pro" and download the free standalone application to your hard drive. ;)

Keyword density is a major issue these days. Google does not tolerate anything above 1 to 1.5% anymore without penalizing the page. It is about content. As always, Google wants to be of service to its users, so people trying to short-cut the system are not looked kindly upon.

I use iBP to find the keyword density and also for keyword research. I know it has a free trial, but I don't know if these tools are available in the free version.

What about the keyword occurrence? If you cant win by keyword density, probably you can lengthen the post and enjoy higher keyword occurrence.

Where are you getting your info about the "1 to 1.5%" ? This seems way low.

    Thanks
