Hi all My friend has been running a site and has accumulated over 1 million email addresses on his subscriber list. He has never considered trying to monetise this list until i recently suggested it to him. My question to you learned people: What rough dollar value can be placed on this list? They represent a cross section of soceity, rather than targetted towards any one demographic. So if he were to send out 1 million well prepared emails related to, say, an affiliate campaign where he was getting a cut of each sale, what would be a conservative expectation? I know this all depends on how much he gets from each sale, the quality of the email addresses etc, but i was just looking for a ball park figure, or maybe some previous examples to get a rough idea. Cheers!
A targetted email lists worth a thousands of dollars rather than a just general email list. If you have even 1000 targeted emails and it converts at even 2%..it is worth more than 10000 random emails.
The subscriber list built by him may not work well.Sometimes, most of them are not targeted.Emailing them is just wasting time and can easily regarded as spaming after emiling them several times. So compared to the quality, the number is less important. We should pay more attention to the quality of the subscriber list and try to get a higher conversion rate using email market.
Unless the users have actually opted to get the emails, it's going to be spam and most people will just delete it without even reading it.
If the emails are targeted you can send a test email and gauge the response rate. This is the only way to determine the value of a single mass email to the entire list. Being that there are over 1 million subscribers I would assume they are membership based and thus untargeted.
1 million is small my friend, can you find like 40 mill or more, more people will come to your friend
I used to assume this aswell. However, some large networks prefer to sell the adspace on their sites to the highest bidder. If you are a targated marketer like myself I would whole heartedly agree with you.
I would suggest to send an email to them asking them about their interests or hobbies, find out what they want. Then possibly try and split them up into smaller groups of people with the same interests and then send targeted emails to these specific groups of people.
If the list is excellent and legit you'll be better off using it to promote your own service or products
