    OK.

When do you think you'll have the log file issues sorted out?

We are looking into a way of better displaying the submissions right now. But you can still go through the log file and see the submissions since its basically a screen shot of each submission.

Wow! Great response so far, to this thread and to our service.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in here and let everyone know that I am working on upgrades to the submission tracking system and directory selection screen. Both of these will be major changes, so it will probably take a week or two before they're done.

You will be able to track your submissions so you don't submit to the same directory twice, plus there will be an option to have the log file and submission results sent by email.

Some of the suggestions here that I like for the directory selection screen are:
    - Group by directory type (adult, etc.)
    - Date directory added
    - List new directories separately

I'll also be putting the PR with the directory names, so you don't have to cross-reference that anymore.

Also, for the people who are getting lots of rejections - You can check the log file to see the exact reason for the rejection. The screenshots look a bit weird at first because they don't include any of the directory's formatting info, but you should see some error messages if you scroll down far enough.

From my experience, the most common reasons for rejection are duplicate anchor text, subdomains in the url (a lot of directories don't allow them for free links), or keywords/descriptions that are too long or too short.

as long as you surf i-net for new dirs i think it could be a good idea to create a list of dirs with image verification... so your clients can do it manually.. just as an additional service for your application;)

I recently enabled image verification on my directories, as I was getting a vast amount of spam from robots.

Relating to this topic again, could people PM their findings with this service? I'd like to write about it on DirectorySpy.com, but I want a fair idea of how good the service is.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Well it would be unfair for me to PM you my findings but I can tell you that the spam you received that made you enable image verification didnt come from me. :)

You can see more what people think of it here though.

Given the type of submissions, I would agree that they didn't come from your site! I imagine it was some generic script set up in perl or similar to target phpLD.

However, I was fed up with wading through 200 submissions of rubbish to find the 100 decent sites. Since enabling the image verification, there's been a massive improvement in the quality of links submitted.

*hint* maybe a special script for phpLD to interface with your system that is not got the image verification on it?

Not quite sure what you mean here. We just dont submit to sites with image verification. Thats the best way around it. :)

If sites permitted automated submissions, they might be inclined to have a script that allowed the automated submissions to take place.

Just did a major update to the directory list adding around 45 after removing quite a few that went paid/recip on us.

We are now up to 285 directories.

I signed up, created a couple of site profiles, and submitted to some directories, but I now want to edit the profiles and submit to some more. Problem is it won't let me; when I click the edit site icon it just takes me to the list page.

    Very frustrating!

Almost 24 hours now, and I still haven't even had an acknowledgment of my problem, let alone a resolution. Wish I'd known this was a buggy bit of software with no support before I parted with my cash!

This problem has been addressed on our support forums already.

The temporary solution is not to edit previous sites and to create a new one and submit it.

Support is not very quick on these forums since we use our support forums for these issues.

Let me know if you have any more issues.

This all sounds very good and I am almost at the order now button but have 1 question.

I have several sites I started submitting to directories but stoped at some point. Does this software look into the directory before submitting to make sure the site is not already listed yet. I do not want to spam those that accepted me already. If not it might be a good feature to think about.

    It currently does not.

But if you are submitting in the same directory with the same title most directories will automatically disregard it.

For what it's worth, I have thought about searching the directory to find the url before submitting. The problem is that the search function doesn't work very well on some of these directories.

The Biz Directory script, for example, just gave me 8327 spammy results when I searched for one of my URLs that I know is listed, but only 35 when searching for my keywords (my link was at the top of that one at least.)

But, like Aaron said, most of the scripts will automatically reject submission of the same url or title.

    It's no problem.

I joined and was glad to see that there was a checkbox for every directory which made me unselect the ones I knew I was listed.
That wasn't clear to me before.

Before I joined I used to do it manualy but kept a track on where I was submitting and which included me. It only became too much work so I do like this. ...I confes sometimes I am a bit lazy :)

    Thanks for the good feedback.

You gave me a thought that I probably should have done already. There are a bunch of features that arent even listed about the site that probably should be on the homepage. Checkboxes for each directory being one.

Guess I got some work to do.
