I read the thread a few days ago about the members of DP starting a site. Well I thought of an idea. What about this. Any member interested post here and PM me after a week I will list all the members interested, create a poll, and the members of DP will vote on the 5 members of DP that will make the team. I'll set up ftp rights on my server get in contact with the members grant them access. What I think the site should be about. We should make a mound of knowledge on the topic we know best, web development and search engine optimization. Articles stacked upon article after article all in a searchable directory. Of course other members of DP could help contribute content all they would have to do is get in contact with one of the members on the team via his new email address set up when the team is started. As far as domain name I wanted to get DPmembers.com but it's already taken. If someone else has any ideas or wants to register the domain name themselves and set the name servers up to point to my server that would be great as well. We could have projects such as get a certain page (article) into the top on google under certain keywords.. and various other projects. We would set up adsense to where it would insert each adsense ID equally. I would also set up a project management page where we could post in private and upload documents and files for the team to view/download. We would use this page to communicate progress and so that we would each be able to work on our determined section, upload the files to the project page where I being the server admin would transfer them into the corresponding folder updating the website. This isn't a well thought out plan, i'm at work and the idea just hit me all of the sudden, but I think we could give it a go and see what we can do if more are willing.
The reason it would work is because to have a catagorized listing of answers rather than question would be very helpful. When you search for something on a forum 9/10 thing you'll read are question or comments. To be able to go to Web Programming > PHP > variable > What are variables and having a clean written definition/guide is why information sites exhist. If the vote was to do an automotive site, or heck a site about flowers that would be fine. However it wouldn't be as relevant to what most of us know. It wouldn't really matter the subject, but to have a site created by the members simply to do projects on, hold contest things of this nature is what I believe the original thought was about. (wasn't originally my idea, I merely elaborated on an exhisting thought) P.S. DP isn't a word, Anyone can write "DP" on any site they chose. anybody could make a site called THE-DP.com and no questions could be raised. I could talk about DP while actually refferring to this site as many times as my heart desires, or register digitalpoint.net (although i'm sure it's taken) and turn it into a european porn shop for all that it really matters. Correct me if I'm wrong but more much more commonly known as DP is Dr. Pepper? This same concept of two different companies containing the same two letters in there name is nothing new. It's the same as all of these "myspacethemes.com" "googlestuff.com" and other websites which involve other names in there domain. If I wanted DPmembers.com as a site created by the members of DP then I have every right to do so. However without cooperation from other members such as yourself I wouldn't do such a thing. I have many websites I'm working on, the website written about in this thread would not be created, designed, or maintained by me. It would simply be a project for the members of DP to see what they can do, expiriment with what works and what doesn't and basically to have some fun. Now I'm not saying this to be rude, I'm saying this in the manner I said to get my point across, because frankly you came off a little snaughty in your post ahkip. I apologize if you didn't mean it that way, however, that's the way I saw it.
ouch. but I would from a legal stand point have to agree with aqrhine. Obv. it would be nice to ask and get some feedback from DP's mods or owners etc. They have provided us all with this great place to talk and share ideas etc. I would love to help but I think I need about half of DP's members right now for my own stuff... lol ash's got skills though so Im sure he will do a good job.
