You won't get too many visitors from directory submissions. You'll get some from the niche directories that have a following, but not much from general directories. However, you will get a link juice from directories that will help boost your rankings in the search engines.
Superb reply Have to disagree, we get plenty of regular traffic from the likes of Yahoo Directory, Joeant, BOTW, and we in turn generate plenty of traffic for our UK listings. US site is in it's infancy, but I would hope within 12 months, most listings are receiving plenty of pageviews. A directory without traffic is a much good as a chocolate teapot
Not necessarily all or in this order: 1. Traffic 2. Better Indexing of your Site 3. A higher position in search engines 4. Deeper Indexing of your Site 5. Better Ranking for Keywords 6. Increased visits and crawls from the Search Engines bots 7. Relevant Link Building 8. Better Keyword Targeting 9. Better Use of Anchor Text 10. Brand Building and Awareness
We submit to web directories to gain quality backlinks and thus improving our PR in the long run, this is the main benefit we get, "organic traffic" - free traffic provided by search engines. If we are referring to "referral traffic" - visits coming from Web site links, I don't think we can get a lot from Web directories.
not as important as it used to be, but still important in the following SEO tactics: - getting your site indexed - Getting your site decent ranking - bringing targetted traffic from niche directories
Traffic from general directories is a myth. Though niche and regional directories can still be good for traffic. It's all about the juice nowadays.
Could you back that up with some data? I have documented statistical data and user feedback that would suggest otherwise.
Its all about backlinks and rising your site high in SERPs (and hence gaining indirect traffic). Direct traffic is from little to nil, general directories don't really contribute much in that aspect, nor should it be a submitter's concern.
True. And directories help you rank for multiple keywords if you were lucky enough to put them as your anchor text (Title)
Am I only the one who sees the irony in OP question? He calls himself SEO-India and yet he is asking about “the benefits of directory submissionâ€. What’s wrong with this picture? fastreplies
