Right now I outsource graphic design work that I can't handle.
I can do fairly basic graphics work, but there's a lot I have no talent for.
I will be outsourcing some tasks as I develop more clients.

Outsourcing is a good way to get help from another people with a fair price, specially if you have a web based company or a seo firm.

If you outsource, you can get more work done, and make more money. But only if you have a good outsourcing strategy.

The amount to pay for outsourcing depends on what the job requires. Do some research.

I outsource a lot of stuff. I recommend bringing in a friend or colleague that understands the skills needed for any task to help you hire the right candidate. Hiring people whose skills may not be what they say they are will leave you very frustrated with the outsourcing process.

And once you find competent people to outsource your work to, treat them well.

Agree with Marcus completely. Your success with outsourcing depends upon how much you know and what effort you're willing to put into what you've gathered.

outsource just for as much money as you can spare... it will make you more money, which means more outsourcing, which means more money and so on :)
for start it's good to pay your friends... or make a website about some of their hobbies, and they'll be pleased to do some things for free...

Outsourcing can be beneficial because it allows you to do other things plus the fact that outsourcing can save you time, effort, and money.

You have to outsource, there's little choice there - there are many things that comprise of a website and propells it to success and its quite unlikely that you will be good at all, and even if you are, you wont have the bandwidth to do all at the tremendous pace reqd in online wrld - for eg. graphic design, seo etc.

The best way is to pay as they complete the job for you or put into escrow

Be fair and give bonuses ... you will keep your workers

    Cheers

Outsourcing can be a good thing and it can also be very dangerous if not handled correctly.
As Lasbutnotleast said you may be training your competition so take care when letting out trade secrets.

You also want to check out who you are working with and keep an eye on what they are doing.
You may get a bit of a surprise when you have been labeled a spammer only to learn that the link building company you hired is running around blatantly spamming your site in forums and blog comments without posting anything of value. This one I know from experience.

I have found it best to make a plan and have people do what you want them to do and not what they want to do unless you have specifically hired them on a consulting basis.
Give your outsource a list of tasks or approve/disapprove a list of tasks that they present to you.

It is your company and you never want to lose control of any aspect of it. Especially when they are representing your company that you have worked so hard gaining respect for.
