It depends on what you are marketing. Works great for our retail stores. You would just need to create a "page" for your business and then people can become "fans":

I agree with the above posters, fan pages are a great way to get people to market yourself/site.

The fan pages are also a great way to run contests to promote your site even more.

The more fans we have the chances to success is big. Get more friends out there to our facebook and then only start doing the marketing.

Yeah the more your work on promoting that fan page, the more you will succeed. I recommend o start by referring your own friends and then tell them to refer their friends as well. Simple & effective.

Many people have been using facebook nowadays as a method of advertising other websites or products. They are called social media experts.

Using facebook to advertise any product or service is different. First let us not underestimate the power of the 250 million plus users that facebook has. Each user has typically 125 connection. That makes facebook one of the most attracitve way to make your website or the product known to other persons. What social media experts essentially do is that they create a huge number of connections. They are able to do so by writing and citing interesting topics

Many social media experts are criticised for using facebook for advertising to the extent that the line between their posting and the spamming is blurred. Make sure that you are not termed as spammer. The key to successful marketing here is to give variety and quality to the content you post on facebook

Great tool for advertising and building personal relationships, that make people want to join your site.

Join a group or page thats related to the niche of your website. If people are a fan of this group, chances are they like the niche of the group. Add them to your friends list, invite them to your groups.

Facebook has above 350 million users and allows marketers to segment and get great insight into their Social Media Marketing Campaigns. Twitter is also a great place to be :) Create a Fanside for your business - and groups to collect potential customers based on interests. It is possible to advertise (paid) to those ONLY registered as a "Fan" or "Group member" if you want to. Targeting your customers like this gives great conversion rates and good ROI. Good luck with your social media marketing! :)

Since Facebook is very popular with status updates if you have enough friends you can post all sorts of different types of adds in your status update and if you friends click them you get paid (PPC), if your friends go to the page and enter there contact info you get paid (CPA), if you friends click the link and buy from that page you get paid (Affiliate marketing). All you have to do first though is make sure you setup accounts with those places and get the links to put in the status updates. Here are some places:

    PPC: RevTwt.com
    CPA: CPAlead.com
    Affiliate Marketing: Clickbank.com

    Hope this helps
