Hey all, I'm new to the forum and could use some advice about wordpress. Recently I opened a wordpress blog and towards the end of building it Wordpress gave me an option that said you can use wordpress to host your domain and change your blog into a .com. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have several years of experience with Wordpress and blogging but not so much in Dreamweaver and CSS. Is this a good alternative to opening a .com from scratch? Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks!
Need some clarification here. Did you download the wordpress software from wordpress.org, install it on your own hosting and go from there or head over to wordpress.com and created your blog there? There's a big difference between the two and I believe you;re getting a bit confused. It sounds like to me you;ve installed the wp.org software but are looking at the wp.com documentation.
Actually wordpress has two site one is www.wordpress.com for free blog and second is www.wordpress.org for those users who purchase their own domain .com, .net, .info etc and make blog. If u have several yrs experience in wordpress, you should purchase your domain and hosting and make blog instead of converting free blog into a .com. i make many wordpress blog. you may visit this. www.newsearth.eu Remenber, wordpress is user friendly and its optimize you blog automatically.
Yes I went to wordpress and opened a blog with them...for instance I have one called smartwords.wordpress.com ... from what I understand, wordpress now provides a service where I simply buy a domain and they transfer all my content/template to that new domain. I was just wondering if I had that right and if anyone has tried it.
You'll get a blog with your own domain, but you will still be bound by Wordpress' terms. You cannot use ads or javascript of any kind. It is much better to install wp.org on your own domain. The only advantage you will get with the wordpresss.com thing is traffic. Visitors will come easily at the beginning because of wp.com's excellent tagging system.
yes, you can upgrade your free wordpress into .com or what ever they provide, including CSS and many with different cost.
