Well that's... great. It seems kind of pointless though, all of these large websites now offering shortened URL services. Why even bother? I miss being able to just go to tinyurl.com and have that be the one and only service you used for shortening URL's, if you even needed to. Now that Twitter has rocketed into the place it's in, short URL's are all the craze

Gawd... Not another one! You can make your own you know? Why not? Everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon. http://yourls.org

And to answer the "why" question:

Because... They want control of your data. Simple. No one should control your data other than them. That is the way they see things. Their goal is to lock you down as much as possible so you don't use "other" services. Any time an outfit like Bit.ly (or whoever) comes up with a winning formula, then the Twitheads and the Facebooktycoons or the whatever comes along megalomaniacs, they will attempt to harness everyone and their data so they can sell out to Google and lick their boots.

    End of story.

There's already too many. Digg has it's own, stumbleupon has it's own, twitter put support behind bit.ly, and Facebook now has fb.me and now Google has Goo.gl

Bitly is offering a premium service with stats, but stumbleupon and a few others already have that.

Bit.ly already has stats enough for free. Doubt they will make much on some "Too little - Too late" premium rip off. If people go for it they are nuts. Like I said earlier... You can build your own, stats and all, at that url I posted.

Takes a little work, but I am going to do it. I would rather have my own than rely on someone else to steal my data thanks. Monkey see... Monkey do. That is the ticket on the Internet.

(I liked your "stop words" post BTW. I was telling the artist I manage about this and that list is pretty comprehensive. Thanks)
