I've been fiddling around with ideas for a forum for about 2 weeks now. i thought i came up with some pretty good concepts but people kept telling me they were done too many times or just too general to really make it. Someone told me to do something I enjoyed and knew i had a lot to say about that was a very specific idea. I came up with a forum about tagging music. I honestly dont see it around much so I seek the advice of the wise on digitalpoint as to whether or not this is worth it.
well there's musicbrainz.org where you add albums to their database and or edit whats already there. i find myself getting into tagging discussion with friends alot as to what prepositions in the English language to lowecase or how to tag classical music albums or what the proper name for a bad is such as 'smashing pumpkins' or 'the smashing pumpkins' or when you should use 'and' or '&' in an artists name such as 'Bob Dylan & The Band' etc. I love to keep my music library of over 80k songs perfectly tagged and in proper folder structure
Stop listening to others if you really believe in what you're doing, set the forum up and see how it goes, if it really do well then great for you, if it don't do well, just move on to another idea, keep on trying, testing and experimenting until you succeed.
there is the whole 'listening to others thing' but they had a point. with my current idea i found it kind of hard to come up with threads on my own. im sure that if it had some success and others were posting, i could come up with a few topics of my own, but i couldn't really see myself enjoying it all that much. i thought the concept was a pretty good one, but maybe just not for me.
I would agree that you go for something where you are really interested in!! It is so much easier to write good stuff on things you like and where you are interested in! And when it doesn't work out you just take another topic where you are interested in and try that.
This sounds a great idea to me. If you can let people share music that would be even better. Good luck.
This sounds like a subforum, more than a forum. Why not do an online music forum, or ask an existing forum if you can have your own subforum on their site? That would mean you don't have to build the community yourself and they'd probably link to another site of yours for moderating the forum.
thanks. sharing music always comes with legal issues though which sounds like a sub-forum? talksons.com or the music thing? a forum specifically about online music or music in general? my thing about that is the web is saturated with such forums and it may be too general.
I agree, why not go for it... Test it out, what do you have to loose. If it fails then at least you know you tried! How many times do we think of a good idea only to talk about it meanwhile someone else is flourishing upon our success, or what could have been...
if you have time for this and you really believe that will work, you can try to do it, but be carefull
thanks for the support. im gonna go ahead and take all of your advice and go for it. i just bought 3 domain names i think would go well with what im trying to do. even if you think they suck, just let me know which one you like best. tagfare.com tagitin.com or tagard.com tagite.com
