Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends1. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. God does not guide the wrongdoers." Surah 5:51

"Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people. They [the unbelievers] will spare no pains to corrupt you. They desire nothing but your ruin. Their hatred is evident from what they utter with their mouths, but greater is the hatred which their breasts conceal." The Imrans 3:118

What do the Muslim Scholars say about these commands? What is the Divine meaning in them?

Jesus Christ Never advised any hatred, or did low class talk like don't take these or those religios people for friends.
Can you muslims see what the rest of the world sees as wrong?

How come you didn't answer it? If there is some good reason in that command you should know it and answer it yourself, but obviously it is way easier for you to redirect the "wrong questions" elsewhere.

How in the world I am spreading hatred? I copy and paste verses of your religion. It is your religion that may be is not delivering the right messsage.

My message to all people is copied from Jesus "Love one another, Love your enemies."
What is your message? What is the message of Islam?
    Also
Can you tell us what is the highest ideal in Islam?

~ In reality the Christians and Jews are not far behind....nor most organized religions or the Atheist.

~ Bringing them all together as one would be a religion of itself, the opposite of the big bang for the evolutionist.

    Here is the original text:

(ياأيها الذين آمنوا لا تتخذوا اليهود والنصارى أولياء بعضهم أولياء بعض ومن يتولهم منكم فإنه منهم إن الله لا يهدي القوم الظالمين)
    [5:51]

    Translation:

(O you who believe, do not take Jews and Christians as allies; these are allies of one another. Those among you who ally themselves with these belong with them. GOD does not guide the transgressors.)[5:51]

The translation you have provided is inaccurate becuase the Arabic word (أولياء) does not in any case mean friends.

The Arabic word (أولياء) mean: The one who take care of you (Guardians) such as (Parents/Ruler/Allies/etc).

So the word أولياء does not mean friends and thus the translation you have provided is inaccurate.

Anyone in doubt can use any good Arabic-English dictionary and look for the meaning for the word أولياء.

    .......................................................
    Original test:

    (.
    Ùˆ)

    Translation:

    118. O you who believe! Take not as (your) Bitanah (advisors, consultants, protectors, helpers, friends, etc.) those outside your religion (pagans, Jews, Christians, and hypocrites) since they will not fail to do their best to corrupt you. They desire to harm you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceal is far worse. Indeed We have made plain to you the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses) if you understand.

The Arabic word (بِطَانَةً) does not mean friends as well and there is no proper English word for it, so the most appropriate words in English to the Arabic word (بِطَانَةً) are: (advisors, consultants, protectors, helpers, friends, etc.)

But still in Arabic it does not mean friends and so the translation of the word (بِطَانَةً) to friends is inaccurate, becuase there is no English word for the Arabic word (بِطَانَةً).

Hello truth77, I m glad to be here and reply yet another hateful thread against Muslims by you, not that you have not been answered before, you have been, but since you are repeating the same in a try to deceive new readers, I will repeat my answers too,

before I go on and answer your question, there is something that must be noted, which is you claim that you are a true Christian, and always speak about how Jesus commanded his followers to love their enemies,

Muslims are not the enemies of Christians, is this why you hate them? should they become enemies of Christians so you love them? lol

here is your answer, from the Qur'an too:

it is very clear, if you were really interested in knowing, that Islam, have no problem with being friends with anybody even if they were unbelievers as long as they do not fight against Muslims, or drive them forth from their homelands, or aid in driving them forth,

but somebody here, may ask, if so, then why it says, do not take Jews and Christians as friends?

who said Qur'an says so? you will find that they are Christian hate mongers like Truth77, and to do so, they are so picky in which translation of the Qur'an they quote in their hate campaigns, notice that what you quoted, is not Qur'an, it is a translation of the Qur'an to English, and here, I want to ask you and I hope that you have little morals and courage to answer, why you quoted that specific translation, when the same verse is translated in different ways, below is the same verse you quoted in different translations to English:

regardless of the context, with these 4 different translations, we have 4 different translations of the Arabic word "awliya'a": friends - intimate friends - allies - friends and protector, and if you put the word in google translator, it translates to "parents"

oh no, Qur'an says do not take Jews and Christians as parents! :D

see how much silly you are?

so what does awliya'a mean exactly? it is none of the 4 above, it is the beauty of Arabic, the language of description, where one word, can summarize MUCH,

awliya'a means those who take care of you, control your decisions, responsible for you, a relation like the relation between parents, and their non-adult sons and daughter, but does not mean exactly parents, I hope this made sense,

what is my proof? the proof is available for everybody, who is not blinded by hate, by checking history, you will find some documents that say:

and my favorite by the distinguished Sir Thomas Arnold, an English Orientalist, who wrote:

    Sunni Islam
In religious uses, it is generally short for Waliullah (Arabic ولي الله) or friend

    http://www.answers.com/topic/wali

    Walī (Arabic ولي, plural Awliyā' أولياء), is an Arabic word meaning Friend," "client," "kinsman," "patron";

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wali

    The Meaning Is FRIEND!
SOMEBODY IS LYING AGAIN TO DEFEND THE "PROPHET'"

This is the most dumpiest try i ever sow.

Since when answers and wikipedia have become dictionaries!

There is no word in English for the Arabic word أولياء and even every dictionary has different meaning than the other, which prove there is no english word for the word أولياء and since every dictionary will translate it to a complete different word, it means also the word has more than one meaning ;)

The only way to understand the word is to explain it, as Imad and I did and to use a good dictionary which would explain the word and give appropriate translations depending in the sentence in which the word has been used.

Readers can use any online or offline dictionary and im sure they can decide alone.

This sentence is kind of funny.
I mean, when the primitive quran was written this was not true. I guess this quranic verse qualifies to be a self-fulfilling prophecy: probably this verse is part of the reason that the jewish state's existence depends on the Christian world. ;)

you will ask them? why bother it seems you made up your mind LONG ago, which is to hate Muslims even if there was no real reason, except of course that ancient reason of them not seeing any sense in "son of God" whom his father sacrificed him so he can be able to forgive.
