Squidoo for SEO ?

Some SEO techniques suggest creating a Squidoo page and linking it to your main website. And then create backlinks to your Squidoo page to increase its popularity/PR etc. Some techniques like link wheel for example suggest to do that.

I was wondering what were the advantages of that versus creating a standard website and linking it to your main website. And then creating backlinks to your newly created website.

I guess the main advantage could be that your Squidoo page might get indexed faster and might gain some PR due to the PR7 of Squidoo frontpage. But on the other site if Squidoo decide one day to add nofollow attributes to its outgoing links you would have done all this SEO work for nothing, link wise.

So could you please explain the main advantages of Squidoo for SEO because I guess I'm missing something here?

Yes, it is a lot of work to make the Squidoo link WORTH it. You cannot simply make a lens and then just link to your site and expect link juice.

Also, like you said, if they do decide one day they will go no-follow, then yes you will be wasting all your efforts.

Like you said its PR 7, meaning it is crawled frequently by Google so we are very sure new lenses are indexed fast.

Backlinks are not just for PR but also to acquire quality traffic to your Web site specially if the content of your lens are unique and useful. I wouldn't mind if Squidoo places the nofollow attribute.

    Just sharing my opinion :).

Not difficult, you just have to familiarize yourself with some new terms, just visit squidoo.com and register to start you with.

Squidoo is good and use to be the king of web 2.0 properties. However, Hubpages has really taken it's place. I spend more time w/ hubpages personally.

I do believe squidoo helps! The lens is bound to get indexed and if you can promote the page itself, your site could indirectly benefit from it.

Squidoo is more attractive and effective but it should not compared with the article directory such as ezine or wordpress. Creating a Squidoo is similar of creating a mini website here you can add links of other website, pictures, video, images, RSS feed. And it is also most impressive because of having many modules in creating a squidoo lens. On creating a lens you may notice that there are large amount of modules available that helps your squidoo lens to become effective and impressive to visitors.

This will bring the backlink and increase the traffic to your website. So that people are using Squidoo to make backlink to their website.

Squidoo used to be the top dog back in the days, but since they've started tagging out-going links and turned them to nofollow, I don't use them anymore. I have not used hubpages and can't say much anything about them, but will find time to check it out later.

That said, I would suggest you give Squidoo a go and see how if it works for you - remember everyone has their favourite methods for building links and traffic.

    Good luck

Thanks for your inputs but thats not exactly the question I was asking. I know that for now Squidoo is dofollow and can thus be useful for SEO. My question was:

What are the advantages of creating a Squidoo page to link it to your main website and then creating backlinks to that Squidoo page versus creating a standard website and linking it to your main website. And then creating backlinks to your newly created website.

Is it that the Squidoo page might get indexed faster and might gain some PR due to the PR7 of Squidoo frontpage? Because if Squidoo decide one day to add nofollow attributes to its outgoing links you will have done all this SEO work for nothing, link wise.
