If a truly AdSense alternative appeared, would you abandon Google?

So many people seem to fear Google, hushing others with "That's against TOS!" and trembling in fear that Google will alter an algorithm and put thousands out of business just because they can.

It doesn't seem like the best situation for a webmaster to be in. If YPN or some other ad network established itself as having the same income for us as AdSense, but the company was more open about your earnings and about sharing information, do you think people would abandon Google and eventually talk about the "bad old days" when they would get banned for accidentally clicking their own ad, or asking someone on a forum about eCPM?

Truly, webmasters would be happier if they weren't fearful, I think.

PS Sorry about the English in the stupid headline :|

depend on the earnings that the new alternative can offer

I agree with dynn on this. The decision would purely be driven by earnings for me...

Really depends on the other alternative. All that said no one should completely rely on google adsense for their online income anyway. Diversify. If you rely only on one thing..you're more likely to have problems.

I don't think I will abandon Adsense. As long as you follow the rules, you should do fine.

As for the algorithm, it has to do with Google Search Ranking and probably Page Ranking and nothing to do with Adsense showing up on your site.

As long as my site is driving enough traffic and the ads being shown are enticing for my visitors to want to click, I do fine.

I am not earning my livelihood through ads because if I do, I would be starving now. It is just the extra pocket money. I start sites because I believe in the contents and not just start any old site for the adsense income.

True, but a lot of people seem very fearful (and unsure of) the rules, many of which seem pointless and obscure. All the secrecy and penalties and paranoia; if there were an AdSense-type system without all that, I wonder if people would choose it. i.e., Are people putting up with AdSense only because there is no better alternative?

(NB: I'm a newbie, this is just a reflection of what I've read here.)

It depends the earnings and what the alternative has to offer, I know soon alternatives will come up and is good to have a competition.

    From another thread:
My case is one day the earnings went up to 7 USD from 2 USD of the previous day. I decided to notify Google to make sure that I would not get banned if there was a sabotage or invalid click activity. They said they will keep a very close eye on my blog and the payment would be delayed.

This is kind of what I'm driving at. These aren't great circumstances under which to do business. Everyone seems to think their relationship with Google is very tenuous.

The only comprable competitor to adsense is YPN which has better service than google but less targeted ads.

I thought YPN was as good an alternative as you can get.

I guess it is, for now. Of course, any website good enough to make decent money from Adsense is probably good enough to go solo and handle their own advertising, eliminating the need for either AdSense OR YPN...:)

What about Azoogle ads alternative we been talking about?

I have no choice now as I got banned then got account back then those nasty Google team found I was banned and I got the banned email again but I emailed back saying don;t bother me really as Plenty other ways to make big money online and Azoogle ads of course so won;t have to worry 24 hours a day about a dreaded email after spending days weeks putting together websites etc.

AdSense is only a small portion of my monthy income from my own websites. It's never a good idea to put all your eggs in one baskets, so I'd advise people to diversify their revenue streams as much as possible.
Running a business that only takes orders from one customer is never a good position to be in.
