If I'm understanding the question correctly then the way we deal with an email account becoming inaccessible is to allow our shared hosting customers to enter 2 or more email addresses into the billing system. Now both addresses can be set to receive a copy of invoices and if one email address is lost either the customer can login and update their details or can drop us a support ticket to change the primary email for one of the others.

We find our customers work by signing up using their email address at their ISP or gmail account and that is where the initial invoice and login information is sent.

Once their site is online they create an email address within their domain, this is used for day to day emails and they configure their email client to pick up emails direct from our servers as well as send through them.

At this point they login to our billing system and add the new address, now we have 2 email addresses through which to contact the client e.g. for invoices, through 2 independent systems, so less chance of a missed communication and unpleasant surprises.

I can't speak for other hosts so you'd have to ask them directly how they deal with you loosing access to the email address you signed up with, but they should have some scheme in place to deal with it as it does happen e.g. client changes ADSL provider.

Great reply! May I ask one question? I am always worried, is there any way, my web hosting provider to steal my account password. I am always worried, If my webhost itself steal my account password and hack my site, then? Do you have access to your customers passwords?

Always happy to help with questions.

    Again speaking for us.

We create the hosting account and therefore have access to the initial password, it's the password that is emailed to you in the welcome email, however you are then free to login to cPanel and change the password to whatever you want and change it as often as you want. The password is one way encrypted and stored in the password database. In fact as the initial password is emailed to you I would recommend you changing it at the earliest opportunity as email is generally plain text.

However as a shared/reseller web host we manage the server and therefore have full unrestricted access to the server and therefore all the files on the server even without the need for your password. If you don't trust the host with your files/data then find another host you do trust.

If you go with a dedicated server it is a little more secure as you control all access to the machine, that is unless the data centre reboots the server to gain access which they shouldn't do under normal circumstances.

If you buy from a reseller of another hosting company then both the reseller and the hosting company they buy from will both have access to your data therefore you have to trust two people in the chain.

If you are picking reputable companies for your hosting then you shouldn't need to worry as no reputable host is going to hack your site, it simply isn't in their interests to destroy your business or there's as sooner or later they will be found out and loose all their clients. Reputable hosts will want lots of happy clients who are recommending them to their friends and colleagues, I know we do :)
