I am doing SEO quite a time and stumbled to this website http://www.ticvietnam.com/en/ They have Alexa Rank > 6Million and a PR = 5. There are no heavy links that I can see pointing to this site. So why is this site's PR so high then??
Alexa and Page rank calculation are totally not related. Both using different methods of ranking system. Alexa counts visitors visiting the page and give appropriate ranking in their Alexa ranking system. Page rank refers to the number of quality backlinks the particular page have and rank each page with appropriate PR depending on the number of backlinks it received. Site that having good pagerank not necessarily should have high Alexa ranking.
The numbers are pretty good 1. Pages (1,072) 2. Inlinks (284) It has little traffic because it's not a very notable topic. I'm sure traffic only plays a very tiny part in PR but this site has some sitewide links and some pretty good ones too. I think with not too many outbound links. .
Which tool are you using for the above stats? Siteexplorer? I have totally other numbers though. 99% of all links come from one domain only, which is a sitewide link of a forum site. This explains the high number of back links in siteexplorer. But still i do not understand why it is PR4! This domain is 2 years old only.
I used Yahoo Site Explorer. But to find out everything about it you'll need this tool http://www.traffictravis.com/?aff=download0&type=pro
The anchor text links might be poorly written. They can get PR10 site link to them, and if the anchor text link says something like "click here" then it won't rank high for the keywords that the person wanted to rank high with so not many traffic through search engine.
Ok here is something you need to know... its not the amount of links pointing to a site that determines PR entirely that's wrong. It also depends on the quality of the site. Plus number external links that a site with certain PR points to. For example if a site with PR 10 links only to two external links then its distributing its PR 50% to each site hence there is a chance both site which it points to gets PR 5. Also as the number of external links from a PR 10 site increases PR value is diluted as well. So PR does not entirely dependent on quantity of the links pointing to you, it also depends on the quality of links pointing to you. Also Alexa ranking is not an accurate measurement of how much traffic a site gets.
