A couple of questions concerning Press Release sites. I know that PRWeb you have to pay for. Anyone have a list of PR sites that are free? Also, let's say I go the route of paying PRWeb. Who takes these type of articles that I submit to them? Could you advertise a product through Press Release sites? Thanks for your replies. I thought I would get all these questions in on one post instead of a few posts...
search in google for "list free press realese" you will get the sites or else check the following link http://nakedpr.com/2007/07/29/big-list-of-free-press-release-distribution-sites/ Code (markup):
Before trying paid PR sites I think you should test the market by submitting your news in free PR sites.
Press releases are generally useless. The only real benefit is if you are launching a huge campaign and are looking for investors. Companies I have worked for in the past have spent thousands on PR's with minimal results. They got hits on their website, but conversions are almost zero unless you have something that is really in demand. Generally, the press release is designed for announcing something that needs financing. Other uses are for launching this or that, but like I said, the results are not that appealing. I wouldn't dare pay for one for a new website unless it was expendable income. Meaning that it is much like gambling in Vegas, your expectations need to be really low that you will get a return on your investment. I am certain that there are people who can write the right kind of press release, but there again, you are talking about spending money. With freebie press releases you may get some visitors. It might be worth the time to write one and post the same one on all the free PR sites. You'll get some traffic. Just don't count on it as your pot of gold. You will be setting yourself up for a disappointment.
Press Releases are just another way of creating backlinks. We should, for the most part, be focused on organic SEO traffic and press releases help you get there. That being said, I have had a couple of free press releases that have actually worked well. At one point we gave away a free bottle of wine, or when we've made donations to charity. Simply adding another product, or shipping state in my case makes for a useless press release that no one is going to read or care about.

I think its good to submit first of all the free press release sites as there are so many press release sites listed here and they are very useful.
There are many free PR sites but they don't serve the actual purpose. They just give you traffic no backlinks.
Just want you to share this and I hope it might help Press Release Services FAQ's Q. What if I do not have anything newsworthy to say? A. It is your business. Anything you have to provide, whether it is goods or services, is going to be news to someone. Q. When should I submit a press release? A. Whenever you have a new product available, a promotion of one of your employees to a new position, a limited time offer, or just to remind people of your existence is a good excuse for a press release. Q. Why utilize press releases? Will people even care that Joe is our new CFO? A. Press releases are great link building tools. You receive a one way incoming link from multiple sites with good reputations with the search engines. You can include anchor text and the keywords you are trying to rank for. This is a lot more valuable than doing a simple link trade or submitting to a directory. Q. How often should I put out a press release? A. Ideally, we recommend once a month. This will vary depending on your site and needs. Q. How long should my press release be? A. We recommend at least 300 words to a maximum of 500 words
Press release submission is waste of time, it hardly brings a few visitors, but never converts. They promise to submit to several news channels but usually they don't.
This is great info on how to get a release picked up. Courtesy of Jeff Gardner. ............................... You have the opportunity to get more PR if you'll tie your product or offer into current news, especially hot news. The news media is always looking for different angles on a story - and if you can provide that with your product, you have a better in. Same with holidays. If your product is attached to a Holiday (or can be), then you have the opportunity for regular PR each year, around that holiday. For it to become NEWS, it has to be unique, different, etc. The news media doesn't want to give you "free advertising" for your product. They want to report on something entertaining, unique, interesting for their viewers. If you'll give them a cool story to report on, they'll give you some publicity. But just announcing a new product rarely works, unless it's a powerful new product. I also realized that I could "write" the news myself. Instead of asking magazines to write about me, I'd write about something in the industry - and then send the article to the magazine. They'd get a free article written from an expert - and they'd allow me to include my photo, bio of myself, and information about my product (today, a link to my website). So now I'm able to get full-page and multi-page articles in magazines, at no charge - which again is free PR.
