Hi! I'm not sure if this is a right category for my question )))
My programmer have told me that I need a dedicated server with mysql on it and full access to it. Could you suggest affordable hosting that can provide that?
    Thanks you!

You would need to ensure that both of your servers are within the same datacenter, possibly the same rack, so that a second network card can added to both servers, so that they talk through a local network, and not through the internet, as this would slow things way down, not to mention that it is not very secure, and your bandwidth usage would shoot through the roof. Talk with your current dedicated server host and see what they can do for you.

I know they've told you that, but do you really? Many hosts operate centralized database servers such as MySQL. You may get some MySQL resources on this central server as part of a hosting plan. Some run MySQL on the same server as your web site, but if you ask around you'll find those who run separate dedicated MySQL servers.

Wouldn't that be sufficient or do you definitely need your own dedicated server with MySQL installed on it?

Another thing to consider, if you need "full access" to it, then you'll be responsible for managing the whole server yourself. Is that something you're willing or able to do?

We operate several centralized MySQL servers and our customers admin their databases using PHPMyAdmin. No-one appears to be restricted or have problems with that and we get virtually no (read: none) support requests about MySQL despite these servers being heavily used, so it must work well and be easy to use.

Your developer is pushing you down the route of an expensive dedicated server that you may not need. Just trying to save you some money (and the heartache and time spent managing a dedicated server) and pointing out other options that may make more sense for your situation.

Do you really need a dedicated server? How many requests/page views you serve per hour? What is your usage? What is your database size?

Well looks like I need to have my programmer deal with finding right hosting because I don't have any answers on all your questions ))
All I can say there will be 500 websites with decent amount of traffic. And we need mysql to be on the same server.
Thanks guys, I just realized that I shouldnt ask this question because I dont really know all details about the whole thing.
    Thanks anyway

I highly recommend Future Hosting - they have been my hosting provider for 2 1/2 years.

And the thing about Future Hosting, they specialize in dedicated servers and virtual private servers.

Take a look at slicehost. If your programmer knows his stuff he would be delighted with it, it gives you full root access so you can do anything you want with it.
MediaTemple are another great company to go with

Codero has been great for me and they have a 50% off deal if you pay for a year in advance right now.
