hey guys just read this today, if your running offers using ppc this might impact you: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/11/teeth-whitening-company-sues-google-microsoft-and-yahoo/
Its Amazing how everybody is ready to Sue Sue Sue... Look at the Apple "mighty mouse" incident. Apple was sued and lost the case, thus renaming their mouse to "Magic Mouse"
I tried doing affiliate marketing for dazzle smile pro later to realize the users were actually signing up for 87-90$ monthly subscription. Dazzle did mislead users by offering free trial @ 1.9$ or so. I stopped my campaign just after 1-2 days.
I hate to pop the cherry on this one. If the consumer had read the fine print which was located directly at the bottom of the screen they'll know that a subscription fee would be applied if the trial is not cancel within 7 days. For example look at all the Ringtone offers we promote, majority of people don't read the fine print. So we really can blame this or that without knowing the facts.
Completely true, on some offers it even notes on the landing page itself that they will be billed after a certain amount of time. They are basically signing up to a free trial/subscription that if not canceled, will charge them for the next installment of the subscription. If the buyer doesn't have time to read up on what they are agreeing to, the company offering the free trial cannot entirely be blamed considering they note that in their TOS.
completely makes sense.. it is not my responsibility as an affiliate marketer to check the legitimacy of the advertisement offers from major ad networks
My tip is not to promote fishy offers. If an offer gives you a free trial and the subscribes you to an expensive monthly billed plan, that's fraud in my opinion. It's hard to promote offers like that, and It's not honest. But especially, it's not safe.
it's not a big deal. things like this happen all the time. epic advertising has loads of money, they aint scared
