    hi guys

i have a site which is coming up first page on google for its main keyword but will not budge from 2nd from bottom result.

when i check backlinks in either google or yahoo for the domain, none come up - even though ive been getting links to it for a good few weeks now.

can anyone help me with this - i am really struggling.

    thanks

well, building backlinks doesnt mean that they will be shown immediately. its always
a matter of indexing them, whereas yahoo is quite fast with it.

if you built e.g. profile links the time you have to wait to get them indexed could be
    quite long.

but if you have links on sites with a high PR, like PR4, its very likely that these will
    be indexed very fast.

hmm ok, so i need to try and go after high pr sites then for fast results?

prob with this is high pr sites wont trade with me as i dont have any pr on my sites. so would you say id be better off buying the links then for fast results?

i just want a couple of sites to start coming up so i can start getting some money coming in...

well, as you said getting high pr backlinks is difficult, you had to offer them something of
value or as you said you could buy links but beware: a PR update could lower the PR!

I'm having the same problem myself. Even though google has indexed the website with the links at a date before the latest indexing of my website the backlinks are still not listed in the google webmaster tools and more obviously have not taken effect as the website in question dropped two places this week. :(

As mentioned, some backlinks can take some time to generate. At the same time, those backlinks may be of a low value as well, and may not even remotely boost your ranking.

Do you do any article marketing? Maybe you should start to do that, and along with that, utilize that blank signiature space that you have. In case you havent realised this yet, DP has an alexa rank of 209, and the exposure that you get in here WILL inspire backlinksand good traffic.

    Good luck mate

Wee how then do you know if Google has indexed the links if you cannot see them in Webmaster Tools.

go to yahoo.com or better yahoo.de (will not count links from the same URL) and type "link: URL".

I think I said that wrong. The website with links to my site was indexed by google on the 2nd of December then my website was indexed on the 3rd. The links however are not listed in google webmaster tools for my site.

I'm definitely not an expert on this subject but I have noticed that Google only shows a small percentage of backlinks to your site when compared to yahoo. Therefore, some of the backlinks that you have just might not be showing up in Google for what ever reason and some probably won't ever show up in Google.

Depending on the quality of the sites, it might take more then "a couple of weeks" for the links to show up. Sometimes the links will never show up, sometimes they will show up in a couple of days.

This one forum I'am a member of. google seems to have problems indexing its pages. Out of over 500 post with signature links, not a single one registers in google webmaster tools. And those were posted over 3 years ago.

You would probably find that they are no follow links perhaps?

I checked the source code and did not see the "nofollow" tag anywhere close to my links. And its not just signature links, I posted a link to my sites in several threads and they were never found.

The forum I was talking about has over 65,000 threads, over 600,000 post and is around 5 years old. Google has only indcexed about 1,200 pages of that forum. Even if the links were nofollow, that still does not explain "why" google indexes so few pages on a semi-large site.
