Magento osCommerce vs. XTCommerce

Discussion in 'eCommerce' started by LustForJoy, Dec 14, 2009.

    Hi there,

my partner and myself have been in the ecommerce business since its existence and started setting up xtCommerce eShops back in 2004.

In 2008 however, we came across Magento eCommerce software and we have been very impressed by its range of features and usability.

Some time ago, we even started a blog on eCommerce issues, specializing on Magento. We deal with MAgento basic installation and configuration up to its extensions and advanced features.

We have just launched our first "How to" Videocast on our website:

    http://web-armada.com/

We consider ourselves as a kind of feedback service to the actual demands and needs of eCommerce users. Therefore I would like to start a discussion here, wether you prefer Magento or XTCommerce.

It would be great if you could come up with reasons or a brief rationale for your decision!!

    Best Regards,

    Joachim Rodriguez (Web Armada)

well, its human nature to justify that what they use is good, and the other is bad. But, the best way to know that is doing a survey, and see who uses what. that can give you a general idea.

    nice website you have there.

Magento is one of my favourite e-commerce platforms. I guess the only bad thing about it is the fact that the paid version is SO expensive. I understand that it is very good though.

Is zen-cart an open source e-commerce platform, too?

Is there already a established community to get extensions and support?

Magento is huge and require lot of server RAM. 256 Mb for descent speed in minimal, and full dedicated server for 10.000 items. Magento have to be setup, configured and optimized well in order to work with good perfomance.

I owned shop on magento engine and improved and tweak default template as well.

It would be great if you could come up with an English version of your website since most readers viewing your post speak / read only English.

Magento is great but the code is real heavy and requires a VPS or better hosting. If you don't mind spending a little more on a host it is pretty amazing stuff.
