Forum rules for PM

I am new to the form, and was wondering if it is ok to pm/email someone that has an interest in something that you read in a post, that you are offering as well.

Basically i have decided to sell my hosting company, and i have been reading through some of the other ones that have done it.

So would it be OK for me to email one of the members that say they are interested in buying a hosting company? The email would just be very general saying "i noticed you had an interest in another hosting company, i am selling mine, let me know if you would be interested". Then providing a few lines of general info about the number of clients, income, age of the company, etc , so that they would know if it fit what they are looking for.

I would not follow up if i did not get a reply, no other contact unless they said yes.

 

if you noticed any guy wants any offers in his thread then its fine to PM or email according to that thread. also you can pm to users who ever shows interest in your sales thread. Read this faqs

 

You should make a thread regarding your sale in sales section/category in DP.

 

Forgive me for my cautiousness here. I have never considered selling my hosting company in any detail at all, and never thought about buying others either, so this is all very new to me.

Just to make sure i have not confused anyone, i have read a post where a member was/is selling their hosting company, then seen reply's by some members that i think could be a good fit. I am wanting to send a PM to the buyer letting them know i have a company they may be interested in.

I did read through the FAQs on Private Messaging, and di not see anything that it goes against it (where it says "The simplest way to know if something is allowed or not, is ask yourself the simple question, "Does my reply have any value to anyone other than myself and/or the original thread poster?" If not, send them a private message." - to me answers my question that this would be an appropriate way to respond to older threads, that i think a buyer may have some interest. It just feels weird doing it, and i wanted to get some advice on it before i did it. I will not be giving any "copy and paste" PMs, and i am not going to just blast anyone that may have a 1% chance of wanting it, as one of my biggest factors in selecting a buyer is that they are the right fit for my clients. So i feel like it should be OK, I guess since it is someone else that started the thread, and i am getting in on the interest, it feels weird. But it seems to me so far that most buyers want any and all that fit their model, so i would not think this would hurt the posting member.

 

Thanks for the advice. I am going to do that, but in researching how to get a handle on this, i have come across a few that i think would be very interested, and may be a good fit, so that is where my curiosity comes in.

 

One more thought i had on this. From my perspective, sending a PM/email to people i think my be a good fit, helps satisfy my concern for fraud/scammers, as it would hopefully cut down on that risk(although i know it would not totally prevent it).

Thinking (all of 20 minutes) from a buyers perspective, i would think they would appreciate getting the information as it is one less that they have to find.

I would also love to hear everyone's concrete answer on if they would or would not do it based on how i had planned on handling it (advice....and "Yes/No I would/.wouldn't do it" ).

 

I would actually write to each individual, as it would be a quick note to each potential buyer that i think we meet each others criteria (which i admit some may look similar to a message another member has gotten - guess i should just be careful to make sure they have differences) . The only thing that would be copied and pasted is the brief summary of my company info that would help them decide if i am a waist of time or worth a reply.

So you don't think it would be ethically wrong or violates anything the forum wants to prevent? Even if it does not violate the rules here, and i would not mind someone doing that to my post, if the majority think it would be offensive, i do not want to ride down that road.
