Can anyone enlighten me as to what the story is/was with phplynx? Some of the comments in this thread (from a while back) make it sound like a decent script but other threads tell a different story reminiscent of the sort of behavior normally reserved for social networking scripts!

    What's the truth?

I recently decided to try PhpLD, got it installed just fine without any issues. Got plenty of good features but some parts of the script seem to have issues. In particular issues with "SmartyValidate". I started a thread in their forum about this issue and pointed out that this has been an issue for a long time and suggested that this should be a priority for their developer. I also try to find solutions on my own and ran across a blog where someone pointed out some errors made on the developer side and gave a solution. I putt this information up on the thread, thinking I was helping to get this issue resolved.
What did I get for that?
The thread was removed/deleted and the following response from James:
    ***************
Yeah it is the session expiring and I am not going to go down this long route to arrive at you frustrated at the fact I dont really consider it an issue on a properly configured server.

To me it is a non issue and if your sessions are expiring that fast I would ask if you got any warnings on install and/or have you set up your own session folder
    ***************

I found this action/response to be very unprofessional.
Hey I am not the only one with this issue just google "SmartyValidate" "SmartyValidate error" "SmartyValidate::is_registered_form" and you will see countless threads about this issue.

Anyhow, I guess I will have to try eSyndiCat PRO

We never try eSyndiCat. We only use phpld for our all directories.

My vote is definitely for phpLD. Although eSyndicat is a nice script, phpLD cant be beaten for price, support, and the future upgrades that will be coming.

Kind of old, but sheds some light on the situation:

... I've seen price vs. performance have been an argument. Is it valid?
Any other experiences with Esyndicate AND/OR phpLD ?

looks like the best is not a good reason. it can not be the best. It all depends on whether you tried other scripts or not. Untill you try other once it will always be the best for you. I strongly recommend trying eSyndiCat or even any other directory script.

Yes, i can know without trying it. Because i compared the directories made with eSyndiCat and PhpLD. I didn't try means i didn't make a web directory with eSyndiCat. I didn't use it.

eSyndiCat is more than a directory. There are many things i didn't like on eSyndiCat. For example; alphabetic categorization (if i am a surfer, i don't need this), random listing, whois online, calendar and the link list on homepage. I do not need any of them. If i was using eSyndiCat, i would delete all this crap. Then it will be same as my current PhpLD. Why doing this?

However, this is my idea @Majnoon. You don't have to think like me.

subet, of course you are entitled to your opinion but when someone who is not affiliated with a product/service is strongly recommending you that product, give yourself a chance and actually explore that product.
All the features you do not need can be removed from the admin panel without a single change in any file.
If you think what makes a good script is the blocks you see in the homepage then you probably do not need to do any research for a better one.

    Please provide a link.

    Do both of them have:
    a) SEF urls option?
    b) possibility to include adsense or other advertising components?
