    Just put it up tonight...I know it needs content.
    Thoughts on the logo and the layout?
    Recommendations for the best place to get advertising for this type of community?
    Suggestions on the sub-forums?

    I plan to, but I was hoping to start filling them up first. I would think its better to have a few active ones than a lot of empty ones.

    You should add some more categories to your forum,

    The theme and color schemes are attractive but need to add more categories that will result in good promotion to the forum.

    Creative logo, I like it! Also the width of the forum is cool... Easier for the eyes to navigate especially on a huge screen like mine :p

    Recommendations for the best place to get advertising for this type of community?

    That may be a tough one... But...

    How about contacting some related magazines/retailers/products once you are more established? Send them a media pack with stats/prices/options...

    Suggestions on the sub-forums?

    I wouldn't bother yet with subforums stick to what you have but elaborate:

    Growth = Growing Marijuana

    and so on...

    And most importantly get it SEO friendly!
