There are literally a bazillion SEO tools on the internet (literally!); Xenu's Link Sleuth. Many people in the SEO industry are already aware of this tool but many people I've spoken to only treat the tool as a broken link finder. It's so much more than that. There are lots of nifty features that solve all kinds of SEO-problems and hopefully beginners and advanced alike will learn something from this post.
Surely this is a statement just promoting Xenu and not a question for a forum?? I personally didnt learn anything from this post????
Yep I use it religiously... for all sorts of things like: 1) getting an inventory of ALL URLs on the site by type (pages, images, javascript, etc) in Excel. 2) getting title tags and corresponding URLs for every page on the site in Excel. 3) getting a list of all external links 4) finding broken links 5) finding 301 redirects 6) finding 302 redirects The list goes on. I find myself using it every other day for something. It's interface is a little crude but very functional.
Not all threads have to be questions. Some can be useful by sharing useful information that others might not know. This is the case here I believe. Did you read the seomoz post he linked to? It's a good read and you WILL learn something. I think THAT is what he was sharing. There is no need for them to promote Xenu. It's available for download and use free of charge.
As far as I can see, that TOOL is simply a broken link finder. NO other special function have mention about it. It was well stated on its description here in this link: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html#Description
I have it blocked on my main site (and a bunch of other scrapers and bots to boot). It is a powerful tool, so I choose not to allow others to use it on my better properties, if you know what I mean...
how did you "block" it? I think it's a great tool I actually used it this weekend to track down some broken links on one of my websites.
Thanks for share the tool, but i think google webmaster is better as a tool to check broken links of site, and thanks for your link to seomoz.
Thanks for sharing the nice tool and SEOMoz link too. Gonna check that tool - hope that will be better one than what I am having now.. BTW, I am using Linux Zenwalk - Is it possible to this in Linux????
This tool will take few minutes to run. This is a great way to scan hundreds of pages and see any page titles that are missing or titles that are outdated or could be improved.
