Welfare Recipients face too much paperwork

Poor baby :( I'll note her discomfort as my file my taxes each year to pay for her welfare :(

Finally motivated to find a job. Wuh, no more rolling over to a check in the mailbox? UGH! The pain of it all.

All in all, the article blathers on about the concerns that welfare recipients have. Know what's missing? Thoughts of the people who actually PAY for these people to live on welfare, the taxpayers.

While you're writing, imagine yourself without a highschool diploma. Imagine yourself being brought up in a situation that precluded you from getting one. Then imagine being told that now that you are doing everything you can to make up for the crappy hand you got dealt while raising a kid you now have to deal with even more red tape that more fortunate people born into more fortunate lives didn't have to.

Not saying it's the same in each and every case. There's some lazy mofos out there. Just pointing out that your sarcastic attempt at being the victim is ironically using the worst possible example of someone you're trying to portray as lazy. ;)

I know. No one in poor situations ever gets diplomas, right? Peoples' bad choices are not really an excuse that works for me. May garner sympathy for some people, but people are (oddly enough) in charge of the choices they make in life. Sometimes the choices are harder than others; but that is life, afterall, is it not?

People are not in charge of the parents they get born with. They are not in charge of how their parents raise them, where the parents choose to live, and what schools they go to. If a person was poorly brought up, and then realizes as an adult they need to better themselves, is it to the taxpayers benefit to make it too difficult for them to accomplish that goal?
Then there's the issues of mental illness, health problems. etc. that keep people down. Or other outside circumstances like Katrina for example.
You need to get off your high horse.

Did I say they were? I said they were responsible for the choices they make in life, not where they are raised, who raised them, etc. Their choices may be harder, but its certainly not an excuse.

i guess the system's just trying to ensure that everything's fair and well... poor people do get welfare but all these checks and balances are put in place to prevent abuse... too bad some of the genuine cases has to go through more... but that's the best the system can churn out...

Nothing wrong with following procedure for a free handout. I always find it strange that the recipient of welfare (the benefactor) can suddenly become the victim for having to put forth effort to receive a free handout. Our country is in dire need of a good solid dewussification program.

Sorry GeorgeB I have to disagree with you

If you can't afford a kid use birth control or abort that puppy,

Yeah sometimes some bad crap happiness to people and its good that there is welfare to help them TEMPORARILY, but so many people just just out there selling their food stamps for crack. There are tons of people who just make a lifestyle out of handouts.

But It is sort of funny though sometimes when people go on and on about "personal resposiblity" when

    A) Their parents paid for their schooling
    b) Thier parents got them a job
    c) Their parents bought them a lawyer to save their ass from some dumb thing they did

Its also sort of funny when those same people who think welfare people are bad, seem to think corporate welfare is ok

Yeah, great idea, kill your kid ...

I think that welfare needs to be a little more controlled than it is now, ya know, because some people who have it really don't need it, and they apply for it because they don't want a job and are lazy.

    It's not temporary, is it?

Poverty went down quite a bit before welfare, especially in the community of black americans. I find that what we have now, isn't really much of an incentive to move-forward.

    None of the above.

Huh? I guess it's 'some' people.

Exactly what source are you relying on to make this statement?

Look up the "Welfare Reform Act" passed 8/22/1996.

It's not just welfare, actually I see more abuse of the social security system since my state Wisconsin really clamped down on welfare. I know of 1 person who is almost related to me who does not need SSI but tried for years, finally sued and got it given to her. She does not need it, she tried every reason from her son was depressed to making up multiple illnesses, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Sad thing though is some people do need help, and when there is a system setup for good there are those bound to abuse it.

    :(

Na I tend to stay away from politics now a days...but abuse of welfare, ssi and other programs does make me sick.

What is wrong with having people take actions in order to keep welfare checks coming?

I have known quite a few people who have used welfare for stages in their lives, but most (not all) wanted out of the system and did what they had to. Most are from poorer upbringing and families, but work hard to better their situations.

    Dirty...lazy-ass hippies!

They intentionally adopt the lifestyle of drunken hobos and then expect handouts from the same society in which they refuse to participate in or contribute to.

Ever seen a hippie hitchhiking...and then get mad when you don't stop to pick him up!?

Ever seen a hippie play his shitty little hippie-ass bongo drums in the subway and then get pissy when you don't drop a dollar in his dirty-ass hippie rasta hat!?

GET A F***NG JOB, HIPPIE!

What's your problem, Rob?? You're a moderator at DP. You're not supposed to be swearing like this,... it's offensive to me, and I have to put up with it enough.

I don't care if you're joking or not, it's still highly offensive and distracting to some of us. You've seriously used profanity several times every sentence.

You're supposed to set a standard here as moderator, not flame hippies like this! It offends others too...

    God damn hippies!

Cartman: Hippies. They're everywhere. They wanna save the earth, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad.

Cartman: Naw dude, Independent films are those black and white hippy movies. They're always about gay cowboys eating pudding.

Officer Barbrady: You can't just lock 63 people in your basement.
Cartman: They're not people, they're hippies!

Cartman: M'am, I'm here to check your house for parasites ... apparently, you have hippies.

Cartman: I hate hippies! I mean, the way they always talk about "protectin' the earth" and then drive around in cars that get poor gas mileage and wear those stupid bracelets - I hate 'em! I wanna kick 'em in the nuts!
