I have few website targeted malaysia market such as lowyat forum etc. I buy hosting direct from DC. Since you beginner,i suggest you use mesrahosting.
I do not think there are to many companies in Malaysia... Even if there are some most of them might servers in the USA and office in Malaysia

If I ever get big enough to consider renting from DC, I'll ask for your advice again @WebIntellects - Rob: There are actually quite a lot but most of them looks dubious, so you may be right after all if we talk about quality hosters.
I think you need to try to find web hosting company on the some local forums in your country. But if you go with one of US companies you won't regret
