Paying for an application seems to ring loudly of a scam. The best way to get relevant followers to follow you is to avidly mention the subjects you are trying to use twitter to promote. Use strong key words- don't abbreviate. This way twitter users will be able to find you through (free) tools like twitter search. There's no point following thousands of people just try and get them to follow you back if they aren't interested in what you're talking about. You could also use twitter search yourself to find users with cmmon interests. Rather than just 'following' them, make conversation with them- Re-Tweet them, mention them, direct message them. The more work you put in the more you get out basically. Hootsuite.com is a really good free application that helps you to manage your account and send out tweets even when you're not at your computer. Good luck :)

I wouldn't worry about buying any application, all you need is http://search.twitter.com and you can find those that are talking about your niche

Exactly. Of course, besides following people to increase more followers, the other way is to tweet more and you will see others will following you.

This is true, but also there are some good apps like the Hummingbird2 that will follow users based om keywords and work on multiple accounts at the same time. : )
