Facebook Marketing Secrets: Not Hard, But Not Hype, Either.

Here are some tips and learnings for you to use immediately for marketing on Facebook, #2 ranked website in the world.

    1) Search for new friends within your niche by using the FB search function. You can do this manually or use software that does it for you. In any case, once you find people within a niche that suits you, add them as friends. Include a personal message to create a sense of authenticity. You can do this via copy and paste.

I presently use automated software to accomplish this - see the P.S. below to see which software it is. It saves me OODLES of time. I'm adding only 40 people a day, but that adds up to hundreds of people per week. And 40 per day is on the conservative side, so you can add more, but don't go overboard. I'm not sure what amount of friend adds would cause a red flag on your account. This is why I'm keeping it relatively low. Plus, I see Facebook as a LONG-TERM investment, not a "get rich quick harvesting and spamming" activity.

The software I use also sends personal friend invites and messages to people automatically. It PERSONALIZES the message (includes their first name) if you want it to, anywhere you want within the message. This has proven to be VERY powerful for me not only because people add me as their friend a high percentage of the time, but it gives me an opportunity to open a dialogue with them via private messaging. Many of these people contact me privately, thanking me for adding them and asking about my opportunity because I ask about theirs first in a personalized message sent by the software.

The ones who respond to me personally get a personal response back 100% of the time. I actually type up (hand type) a response to every person who contacts me. This is called NETWORKING, folks. You're on Facebook to be social and communicative. Read #3 below and use it.

By the way, I have software made by the same company that you can use on Twitter, Myspace and other social networking sites to accomplish the same automated friend-adding routines. See the P.S. for more info.

    2) Connect your Twitter and Facebook pages. When you post on Twitter, it can automatically show up on Facebook (and vice versa to a degree). Saves a bit of time.

    3) Be SOCIAL and engage people. Don't do what everyone else is doing - screaming and spamming their marketing message to everyone around them. Become INVOLVED in the discussions, actually contribute something that has little to do with your business opportunity. If you must point it to your marketing, provide FREE value FIRST.

Would you go to a party and immediately start prospecting people in the room with your product, service or opportunity? No, you wouldn't, unless you were giving a Tupperware party. Even then, you'd still want to warm up to your audience and get to know them. It's human interaction in action.

This falls in line with #4:

    4) Be yourself and BE DIFFERENT. Show people your vulnerable or quirky side. Share an embarassing flub up, be funny or controversial. Share a personal story. So many marketers follow the same sheep-like path and take themselves too seriously. They try to come off as too polished and professional.

I'd rather see someone with depth, character, personal flaws, and a willingness to work... not just a smiling guy in a suit taken by a professional photographer and a hyped up headline.

Separate yourself from the herd. Show your character. I've done this by being funny or personable. And as you can tell from this article, I am acutely, terribly, and astoundingly funny.

There are more tips. Will share more later.

    P.S. The software is here:

Keep in mind you can purchase each item separately (Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, etc) if so desired.

I'll share other tips in a future update.

Twitter is basically the same, but you have to be succinct because you are afforded a much lower number of characters per post.

Look up people using keywords in the Twitter search field. Follow them until you have thousands. There is software to aid you in doing this, but I recommend doing it manually until you understand what is going on.

Also, unfollow those who haven't followed you back. I usually wait about 3 days before I unfollow someone who isn't following me. No sense in keeping them around if they aren't seeing your message. This is about a two-way street.

Then, start sending out tweets, but make sure you ADD VALUE to your tweets. I, for example, tweet inspirational quotes or links to helpful articles on my blog. I DO NOT include a marketing "buy this from me!" message in every one of my tweets. If you do that too much, people de-friend you, period. You become "that guy who's always marketing his stuff" and you don't want that.

Out of every 5 tweets you make, you can make up to 2 tweets about your product/service. The rest should be valuable content, perhaps a joke, link to a video you say. Basically, be yourself and share what you like. Of course, this doesn't mean you should share lewd topics if your niche is garden tools. Common sense.

Just keep your marketing and personality tweets in balance.

Someone I know has 18,000 followers. They use my same tactics above and generate between 5 and 10 free leads a day. Sure, it takes time and a bit of effort to get to the point where you have nearly 20,000 followers, but it can be well worth it if it means putting up 5 messages a day and getting 300 leads FREE per month.

Again, there is software to accomplish this. If you want to know what the software is, contact me privately.

It will be worth it over time to do this.

    Now get to it! :)

Great tips. I had never thought to search for people based on niche using the friend finder.

You're welcome. Also, VERY important point:

DO NOT GO CRAZY ADDING HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITHIN A 24 HOUR PERIOD.

Sorry if the caps are obnoxious, but I definitely want to get my point across.

Do not add more than Twitter can chew. I'd say 100 per day is a safe bet, a good number to fly under the radar. But do NOT add 500 people every few hours or even within a day. Twitter WILL notice, flag you as a spambot, and your account WILL be suspended forever. Lots of hard work and promise gone in a few seconds.

So... start adding at a balanced rate and have fun. :)
