$40 Zombie Site Logo

Discussion in 'Design Contests' started by J8Diamonds, Dec 7, 2009.

So I've been trying to come up with a logo for this site for a while, but haven't managed to get anything I like yet.

I have, what I think is, a decent spec for it, so hopefully some of you are feeling creative. Contest is worth $40 as per title, but I reserve the right not to pick a winner. Contest closes early-ish on Saturday GMT (basically whenever I get up on Saturday :D).

    Company profile
Site aggregates zombie news in film, web, comic, design and more.
Also produces original content providing survival knowledge, skills and equipment.
Other original content through reviews, previews and competitons.
Looking to become market leader in zombie news and easy access survival guides.

    Aims
    Gain subscriptions and regular readers
Encourage those readers to tell others
    Encourage UGC to be submitted
Encourage discussion on comments and forum
Encourage users to connect with us on all social media sites
Encourage users to link back to the site

    Target Audience
    Male 60% - Female 40%
    18 - 25
    Low income
    Variety of professions
Worldwide appeal focusing on UK, US/CAN and EU

    Design considerations
Must have a strong text only logo featuring site name.
Does not necessarily have to include the .com but may.
Text should be accompanied by a logo. Logo concepts can be whatever you can think of.
Must be able to be condensed into a 60 x 60 square without losing identity - square can include just the ZC of the logo or a section of the logo proper.
Font shouldn't just be standard 'horror' font.
If it is a standard font then adding some depth through colouring would be preferable.
Under no circumstances to have a 'dripping' effect (like blood).
Think corporate horror; combining web start-up with grunge/horror.
ZC is 'opposed' to zombies, so can include military themes rather than zombie body parts.
Should be clear and easily identifiable in monocolour and in up to just 2 colours but may incorporate any number of colours into the main design.
Logo has to work on business cards, t-shirts and other merch; though will not necessarily be the focus of the design on any.
Should be in a vector format to comply with the design requirements of the above point.

I would ignore the current logo as it's just one of many make do logos I've used on the site and like I say, approach this more as a web start-up than a zombie site.

I'll be on hand to provide feedback throughout the week. I look forward to seeing what you guys can come up with :)

I could set up a moneybookers account. I maybe already have one from my more prolific poker playing days :)

Paypal, or bank if UK are also an option.

    @nasko4
Image received. Not really what I'm looking for; it would be more appropriate for a whole header than a logo. Thanks though.

@panic! - Decent first attempt. The zombie you've used though is sort of stock. The silhouette of it is seen everywhere and I'm really looking for more of a brandable type logo.

If it's not overly complex I could make it into a vector.

@minucosminu - Nice, quite like it.
Not so keen on the font on the bigger version and prefer the general layout on the 60 x 60.

@Abdul.D - I can almost see it, but if you were to continue down the right road it would probably end up too close to this. (Twitter down, linked to cache).

Bit too cartoony and not obviously a zombie as is.

@Abdul.D - Nah, it would need to be more grungy to fit in with the site overall, which is why I said it would end up like the zombie riot teeth logo if we followed the concept to it's conclusion.
