Hi Folks, Ive just seen an old thread that I commented on over two years ago getting a new post. Kind of irrelevant now, so why dont you guys just auto-close threads with no posts for say, 90 days? Also - Im pretty sure its that "related threads" box at the bottom of the threadbit that causes most of these issues of posting on old threads, so why not cut that out while your at it. cheers MOG
old threads normally gets reply from newbies probably they searching the whole internet and found that in DP and happy to reply. its all due to Google effect and it is helping to get new users to DP also
There is some mod on a warez forum (that uses phpBB, not vB unfortunately) that displays a message on posts with no new replies for more than XX days. That could be usefull for DigitalPoint too to prevent the newbies posting in old threads that don't need an update (some do need an update though, that's why I think auto-closing isn't that good idea) - Aquarezz
Its a setting in vB - you can auto-close old threads.... ... Im not really looking for discussion on the point, we all know its a problem, and its easily solved, so how about it?
At this point please report when members are bumping old threads with posts that add nothing of value.
I would (I report quite a lot of other stuff as it is) BUT: Im conscious that there are only "x" moderators, and your jobs are hard enough, when a two minute fix would resolve the whole issue. As I say, its just a suggestion, and one that Im sure must have been made before - but its totally worth doing.
