keep backlink from old domain

    Hi.., i have bought old domain with a lot of back link , what should i do to keep that backlink? thanks be4

    1. step
    Add the site to Google Webmaster Tool. Under (Crawl errors->Not found) you will see way more backlinks -day by day- than in Yahoo or anywhere else.

    2. step
    Pick a backlink and rewrite the route (permanent redirect) to you new site. Easiest to do it by editing ".htaccess" file...

    Lets say the backlink is pointing to yoursite/blabla.html (not exist any more) and want to redirect it to yoursite/newpage.html.
    ---
    RewriteRule ^blabla.html$ /newpage.html [R=301,L]

    thx meglepett, i use wordpress. is the same if i use 404 page? without .htacess, wichone is better?

    Backlink pointing to a 404 page gives no power to your site.

    Backlink to a 404 is like - long time ago there maybe was some interesting info here, but anymore.

    Backlink to a 301 is like - the interesting info is still here !!! We have a new cms or something so the page is still here arround and now I let you know where (for I care).
