Hi All, Recently, the concept of "ICE" is catching up quickly. It is simple, yet an important method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by majority of the population around us, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted at during emergency as "ICE " (meaning In Case of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which numbers to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. Following a disaster in London, the East Anglican Ambulance Service has launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign. In an emergency situation, Emergency Services personnel and hospital staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply dialing the number stored as "ICE". Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference ! You never know when you might need it.
My husband has had ICE in his phone next to my name for about a year now. I keep forgetting to do the same in my phone. I know when I worked at a jail, it would have been extremely helpful to have that number for those who were too drunk to answer the questions about who to contact to pick them up.
Thanks for the info...Hadn't heard of this before..but will try and forward it to as many people as possible These days people suffer from heart attacks, seizures and all kinds of stuff at any point of time in their life Such an idea will save valuable time and will help in prompt medical attention as well as result in less tension for the family of the victim
I also have got it on my phone, however i've got a keypad lock code on it aswell so they wouldn't be able to view it.
This did the email rounds after the london bombings. I know I blogged about ICE in July 2005 and added it to mine. Amazing the people who haven't. It must be so hard for the police to track down families. They do a marvellous job as it is.
I know lots of people who don't speak or understand english. This code means nothing to them. In my language the code should be: In Geval van Nood, IGN There should be such a code for every language, that's why a website would be useful.
No, it isn't. The code in your language is ICE, IGN means nothing to them. Contrary to popular belief SOS means nothing, it's just a handy way to get your message across. (SOS was choosen because it's easy to recognize in morse code). ICE happens to have a meaning but if we start using local versions we will have to change our phonebook every time we cross a border (or teach all emergency workers around the world some 200 versions of it).
Nope, the Governments should butt out and concentrate on economics and other national level things. If people want to change their social habits it shouldn't be by government dictate!
That's a real Cool and a practical thing Kuddos to the one who thought about it. Thanks Rage for letting us know
Hi Folks, I got this email yesterday, and thought it was such a great idea, If you have a website or blog, please post info about ICE to help inform the public. Info deleted see OP
I only call 1 person on my cell phone, so all they'd have to do is look for the last person (or last 100 people) called.
I have a friend called ICE , hes the last person i would want called in a emergency... best change his name !!!
