I have a mini portal on Goa. The portal got listing on Dmoz 4 months back in the following category - http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Goa/Travel_and_Tourism/ Website never been down nor any kind of spam. Infact nothing was done since it get listed except continuing with link popularity campaign. Suddenly yesterday i saw the website been dropped from the dmoz listing. How can i find out why was it dropped? I know that its useless to discuss about Dmoz but its strange that a website got removed for nothing.
I would guess that there was a reason why the listing was removed, I doubt a listing can be deleted without entering a reason why. Finding out what the reason was might be another story.
How should i find out the reason. Its a hitler game. There are no reasons for why a site is accepted nor for rejection, add to that now deletion is also done without notifying the owner as of why your listing is being deleted.
i agree with u seoindia. it's completely a hitler game. i submitted my site in dmoz for past 4 months but didn't get any reply from them and even though it's a corporate site.
See one cannt do anything if a site doesnt gets added. Its a debate which can never end. We have to accept the fact that its nothing more than a lottery and only few guys out there are doing sincere work. The main problem is that many editors reject sites so that it donnt add to competition of their own sites. Like editor of a travel category himself is a travel agent so why will he add any travel site, so the game goes on. But atleast one should have reasons to remove a listing...
SEOIndia - The category had a clean-up by a senior editor last month. He delisted several sites for various reasons - all in accordance with our guidelines. He is not a travel agent. Ishfish gave you a clue why your site was delisted. Netprophet - The ODP is owned and funded by AOL (Time Warner), but it is run effectively as a non-profit. It is manned by volunteers, charges nothing for listing, does not accept advertising, and gives away its database for free. The ODP permits the public to suggest sites for review in most categories. That does not imply any contractual obligation on the part of the volunteers to review or to list the suggestion. You may be thinking of commercial directories which charge the webmaster for review within a stated time. In that case the webmaster would most certainly be entitled to the service he or she paid for. Absolutely.
SEO India. There is still a Senior Editor who can add travel sites. Maybe you can contact him directly.
All senior editors (editall+) can add travel sites or any other sites in any part of the directory. However this particular site will not be relisted unless it changes out of all recognition. If you are suggesting that SEO India attempts a bribe - well he can try. That would get his site banned permanently.
Cannt understand what u mean exactly by - relisted unless it changes out of all recognition. what is the reason for removal of my site? because its not a affliate website? I cannt see how my site differs from any other website listed in that category.
That is the problem. To add to the value of the category, any new site listed should offer significant unique content. It should not mainly re-package affiliate content.
Out of interest, does anyone know how you can find out if a submission has been "rejected" or whether it still in the seemingly endless queue?
An editor may be willing to provide that information, though many won't. Some editors have been seriously harrassed and even threatened by disappointed submitters. Most webmasters will be angry about a rejection. That is only natural. Equally naturally many editors prefer not to break that news and risk attacks on them personally. Resource Zone used to provide submittal site status on request, but no longer does so. It took up a tremendous amount of editor time to no really useful purpose. Yes I know that webmasters would like to know. Wearing my own webmaster hat - I would like to know if my submissions to other directories have been turned down or are still awaiting review. But what would I do if I knew?
Amnezia - Cheap cracks at the ODP are all the rage, but could do damage to innocent webmasters. We have now had hints that SEO India already bribed an editor, or should do so. An attempted bribe would get his site banned permanently. This is no joke. Any attempt to relist the site now would ring warning bells inside the ODP. How is that helping SEO India? It is just blighting his site.
Thanks Genie, what it hurt if you resubmitted your site after 12 months on the basis that it is still not listed and now much improved?
Gordano - The only downside of resubmittal is that it will overwrite any previous submission to the same category. So if the editor reviews submissions in date order, it will be pushed down to the bottom of the pile again. [Added] The site in your profile has not been rejected. PS - I don't normally provide site status.
