Hi All, I have a blog I use to promote an affiliate scheme. It has around 2-3k unique visitors per day, and an expensive server running it. The affiliate scheme does me well, but say 1% if that actually buy the affiliate product. I am think 99% dont, so is it worth my putting google on there somewhere, for the other 99% to maybe click, or is that just going to distract from the affiliate promotion?
Hey give it a shot. With 2-3k visits per day i think you will do real well. But make sure you pass the adsense TOS before you post the ads. Good luck
Ok, first of all, I won't answer your question directly. What you should do is give some serious thought of improving the website because 2k unique visits per day is huge money and if your conversion rate is just 1% then there's a lot you can do to improve! As for Adsense, I would consider this as the secondary option. My experience has shown me that mixing Adsense with affiliate sales is no good - in the end, you'll earn a few hundred bucks from Adsense but lose some (much more valuable) affiliate sales to it. Feel free to get in touch with me (this applies for everybody) if you need any assistance in promoting affiliate products. I've done a lot regarding this before and wouldn't mind helping out people who are just about to get started ..
You have to make a 2 weeks test, but don't hide the adsense, make sure your ad placement is excellent and then watch the numbers. Then remove adsense and wait another 2 weeks. Then compare both periods and earnings. Then you can decide.
I just wonder if long term, I will lose out on affiliate sales which are residual upto £12 per month continous, for the sake of a few cents from google. Hmmmm
Great reply, and you seem to mirror what I think about the potential damage. Conversion rate is low, but I think thats just the industry I am promoting (online lottery syndicates) a lot of skeptics around. I have been doing this for four years, so really not getting started but now wondering if there is a way to either increase sign ups, or cross promote with something else. Without of course damaging the whole point of the original blog! I will PM you
If you don't give adsense a fair chance to show potential earnings by placing it in top spots, then don't even test it because you're right, it will earn you cents. You either give adsense a fair chance or you simply don't put it on your site. If you put adsense in a bad spot such as where you were thinking, it's better not to have it, because a few cents isn't worth the loss in public image of an ad-free site. A good spot is simply where you'd like to display your own advertizement if you were offered the opportunity to put your ad anywhere on the page for free.
You will have to give it a shot to find out. This works differently for all the websites. I have seen people using Adsense in ad spots, and affiliate links in the posts. So, they are able to get best of all the worlds. Try it out for a few days and see how it goes.
Not sure! As I heard once you start doing adsense and your account get suspended for any reason, it's all over. No chance to start again! So maybe you need to learn more about adsense before starting!
I too think you are going wrong with your blog, If you are getting 2k traffic on a blog where you do affilation the that is very good. You can earn a lot with that much traffic. And in that case you don't need Adsense as that can reduce your conversion rate. You should focus on your blog to make the conversion rate high,
I've just given you the best advice on best ad locations, I repeat: "A good spot is simply where you'd like to display your own advertizement if you were offered the opportunity to put your ad anywhere on the page for free." That's the only advise you need from others. You know inside yourself where that is. It's where you'd like your own ad to be if the site wasn't yours.
