Im looking into selling my directory and some other sites (buying a house) and was wondering what the expected value for it is. What do you think the value is per monthly income? I was thinking if the site has made consistent income for the past 12 months I could expect a 15 month income price. What do you guys think?
no don't measure it like that, you can boost traffic and earnings for short time, best thing is to offer it for sale and wait for people bids
Thinking of multiplying revenue like 10x or 12x or 15x doesn't work. There are a lot of factors involved. The directory sales market is really poor (Thanks to the QBC's selling fake PR5 and PR6 and .info sales and dropped domain sales) - Trust me on that.
what? if you can boost earning and traffic for short time why not do the same thing all the time? I agree with you Humm 100%. That is the main reason I might not list it as I dont think I will get the site's real worth mainly because of all the spammy directories for sale out there.
ive seen people sell "sites" for 10 ~ 12 month earning,.... but i figure a whole loads of factors playout,... traffic brandable domain name,... marketing already done! depends,... could put it on SP. M.
You are right M. There are a lot of factors that play in it. Especially in the directory market. I'm hoping to get more than 12 month profit which is not common in directory sales
Today Directory is a risk market. Very less will want to invest big amounts and (nonstop) fear a PR rip (which is one of the reason for max sales) or a serp ban or any other ban. Hope you guys getting my point.
i agree with you. It is a risky market with a lot of manipulation and not so honest practices going on. I think that makes selling of directories harder and also makes the quality ones that much more valuable.
yes, i dont see the humor either. You might be implying that a directory can not pay for a house and of course it can't. I'm selling couple sites for down payment. in either case, I'm glad it made you smile
i have two interested members here in PM. If they accept my asking price i will sell it , otherwise i might put it on flippa (sitepoint). I was thinking its the end of the year and people can use this as tax right off but at the same time its christmas time and everyone is spending money and therefore short on cash
It may be a difficult time to sell (year end) and I'm not sure you'll realize the multiple you are trying to get. During the peak almost 2 years ago I think getting 10x was a bit difficult. I will agree that with all of the crap out there a reputable and well established directory should command a premium, but I'm not sure what the market will bear right now. I think you're being realistic in your expectabtions, and I wish you luck with the sale.
thank you. I've sold all my directories (3 before) at 15 month revenue but i do realize this is a tough time to repeat that
I was thinking of possibly selling one myself (maybe i hate to do it at all) but im the same way in that i already have a price in my head xx,xxx and know that if i dont get what i want ill just hang on to it If i do its becuase i want to promote new directories as well as invest into other things and i know what ive got into it so im not selling due to immediate necessity and wont take anything less then xx,xxx... thx M1
I do think flippa is your best bet...unless you can get some private bidders This dropped high PR directory creation industry has had significant negative impact on directory reselling market. I think you should put more emphasis on the backlinks/blogposts/marketing you have done for the directory than revenue earned from the site. For example, if the site is listed somewhere that costs $300 (BOTW or another place for example), let the buyer know. These factors influence buyer's decision too. No kidding!
