Simply put: no, it is not possible.

Even if it were, why in the world would you want to do that???

Saving money is the target. If I have one dedicated box, and I can have both IIS and Linux running then I can run all my linux and windows based softwares there.

I was mainly aligned to get php running on IIS. I found some solutions; this could be easily done. So I guess the answer would be yes we can do that. I yet have to experiment to see the performance running both types of sites on same machine.

Actually it is possible to run IIS on Linux. The options are a using an emulator like wine - good luck with that though, or use any of the open source virtualization packages however this method would still require a full windows installation on the virtual machine.

But as CanSpace said why on earth would you want to do that?

You can run Apache on Windows or *Nix. You can run PHP on Windows or *Nix. You can run .asp on Windows or *Nix. You can run ASP .Net on Windows or *Nix.

How many more options could you possibly need?

    **Update**
I just noticed that you are running, or at least advertising a webmaster forum, so how can it be that you don't know any of this already? The mind boggles.

I am a windows guy, Linux got a very small share of my expertise; specially I am not familiar with Linux servers when it comes to dedicated. Running a forum, wont make me an expert on Linux, right?

When I was thinking of running a php+mySql site on a IIS, first thing came in mind is if i can run both IIS and Linux OS on same machine. Apparently installing PHP & mySql on IIS is a better solution.

Once I did run Windows XP and Windows Vista on same machine. But that was a nightmare.

And technically speaking we seem to be able to run both OS on same machine; but all comes down to that its unnecessary complications.

Sorry I guess it was a little overly sarcastic of me. I tend to consider that someone who calls themselves a webmaster knows these kinds of intricacies. At least that's what I've come to expect in my years in the IT industry.

But right your are. No need to be an expert to run a web site.
