The Rules currently has a line: Don't "bump" threads and don't post duplicate threads. I got an infractionconfused on the first day I joined up because I clicked on the submit button twice (even though I immediately editted the duplicate to actually say it was a duplicate). Apparently, when this happens, you should click the little X on the top right of the post and report it to the Mods. Why doesn't it say so in the Rules? How bout adding this little note so that users know how to remove their duplicates? - before they receive an infraction!
There is no need to worry too much. The Infraction you got will vanish with time. Concentrate on posting and sharing your thoughts with members. When we make mistakes accidentally the impact result will teach as rules and regulations as you experienced now.
I just checked. You received a warning, not an infraction. That is our friendliest form of a reminder that the posting guidelines are violated in some way. Yellow cards are warnings and do not count point wise toward a ban. Infractions have varying point weights associated with them. Old users who rack up 10 infraction points receive a temporary ban. Nearly everything you want to know about DP and VB can be found by using the FAQ/Rules link.
That is what... People dont read the FAQ/Rules and i suggested here but not a lot of support http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=127523
This forum is for webmasters, not for babies who need everything sent to them. If people are too lazy or dumb to read the faq then they deserve the infraction.
True but... Almost all members here dont read it, there should be a warning given regarding the FAQ when they join. Everyone getting an infraction..... They would just open a new thread here : Silly infraction Ridiculous infraction I got an infraction How many of these? There would be no end to it.
Yes. I'm not too fussed about the infraction/warning but I thought I'd make a suggestion in my original post. When I first came on the forum, actually, I was looking for the forum rules but couldn't find them. Normally they are the first sticky on each forum. It's funny that I never looked at the top menu bar even though I was actively searching for the rules.
With fryman on this one. Webmasters don't cry, whine, start threads about infractions or red rep. Webmasters read the forum faqs when they join. Lamest excuse in my humble opinion, is to say "I did not see the faqs when I joined" But it could be I am old enough to hunt around a forum for everything.
Are you guys reading reading my post or off on another planet? I read the faqs, I know it's bad to post duplicate threads. I editted it straight away. I didn't know what else to do. It doesn't say how to delete your duplicate in the faq/rule. I suggested we put in a note in the faq. Simple as that. And no, Webmasters != Forum Experts You would think that as webmasters, you would know the priority of an intuitive interface for new visitors. Clearly, if there's a lot of people writing posts about not finding the faqs, there is a usability issue with the forum layout.
What i said was not accepted but was the correct point. But also what others say can not be ignored. You shouldn't have edited and just Reported your duplicate post or thread and the MODS would have helped u out. EDIT : if u still didnot understand how to edit or delete a post then lemme know, i might help u.
Brilliances - you were given a gentle reminder with the warning, as Smyrl, one of our moderators, pointed out. It's nothing. Forget it. I am sooooo 100% with Fryman - new users should find and read the FAQs and the rules and anything else forum related. It's a webmaster forum. For webmasters. Who know there are rules and regulations with every forum they use.
This is the last time I'm going to say this again. I don't mind the warning. Besides, I've already got some positive reputations from other members Is this not the thread for suggestions? That's my suggestion. Put a note like what sizzler_chetan said: "If you accidentally create a duplicate post/thread, just report your duplicate and the MODS will helped u out" Is that not a good addition to the Rules page?
It is. But it's also kind of obvious. I for one am all for a 'cut the waffle' policy. If we add your suggestion then I can think of another 60 pages of additions as well. They will be useful for the members, yes. But are they truly necessary? It's obvious to me. If something goes wrong with a post/thread, report it to bring it to the staff's attention. It's like if you drop a beer on your mates' carpet. Do you go around the house looking for the manual or do you bring it to the attention of your mate, after having to tried to clean it up yourself?
How about using a system similar to digg? Don't know if it's possible to code this or not but... Using the similar thread thing, BEFORE the person is able to submit the topic there would be shown the similar named threads and maybe the thread starter would think again before opening another "What car you drive" and "How many adsense ads on one page" threads... What do you think?
Ah.. finally someone who reads. Fair enough. Btw. I would a) wipe it clean and hope he doesn't notice or b) tell him the next morning that he pissed on the carpet
