What are your criterias to trust someone or something?

What are the criterias for you to trust in a religion/theory/belief/thought etc that you would stand up for or even die for?
Is it a great looking person or a wonderful speaker? A hero who helped those in need?
Is your choice based on principles and relevant doctines or truth?
Do you go by feelings, impressions, great-sounding ideas?

I think for me it is a combination. People who stand out in an good way deserve to be looked at why they do what they do. If their example stacks up with what they believe and I see them attract others who get inspired to follow and make a good difference to their surroundings, I keep them on my "watchlist". I imitate the good and am mindful that they are people, who can fail. But the truth behind I think is eternal. This keeps me from desperation when the person falls ... as many do! The truth behind stands strong and solid!

What are your criterias to follow or choose what you rely on?

    How do you choose?

To trust information - Always double check it, no matter how honorable, important the person is supposed to be. Do not judge by their speaking ability, looks nor by how popular they are.

A person - Judge them by their actions.

In America we trust based on color of skin, speaking abilities, charisma, "leadership skills", how well you can tell a lie, etc. I think content of the message is somewhere at the bottom of the list.

to trust means to give up some control, to whom you think will do the job, that you can't do yourself for any reason, the criteria to give the trust will depend on the job that needs to be done, you may trust a forex expert to invest your money in forex, but you will not trust a doctor to invest your money in forex,

you may trust a doctor to treat your illness but you will not trust a forex expert to treat your illness,

for beliefs, and ideas, I do not think there is something called blind trust, because each has his own mind, and nobody would give complete control over his mind and thinking,

you start by giving some control over your ears, or eyes, by listening or reading, then a process of growing the trust may start, and later it may reach to the point where you trust blindly. Or trust may end completely, and you no longer even listen to such ideas or persons, depending on your own experiments, tests, and thinking.

Pictures speak much louder than words. Love it! Thank you!
Apart from a dog, can you find a picture of a person we can trust?

Rebecca, you find photos all right! He looks kind and sounds kind! ... but is he really like that behind the mask?
Does the outside match the inside? Do we get what we see?

Let me share this, when you are going to trust someone, you must be very ready to accept any unexpected happening.

It may sound sappy, but I've always been a Mister Rogers fan. I've watched his shows and read about his life, and think he was a really good person (he passed away from cancer in 2003). He was a gentle and soft spoken person, and I believe he genuinely cared about others. Smile633, If you're out of the US and have never heard of him, I would definitely recommend reading up about him. Here's a true story widely circulated on the Internet about him that you might like.
Mister Rogers had a way of speaking to the heart. Anyway Smile633, do you want to post a picture here of a person that you think is trustworthy?

    Don't trust politicians!

Kinda reminds me of a quote from the movie Princess Bride: Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

    Yea, that's totally politicians....

Yes your right, when they speak believe nothing until it happens.

I personally know 2 decent ones that do what they say and are totally honest and I meet with them at the HOC, other than these 2 that I know I would say there's about 20 decent MP's with morals etc in the HOC.

I had indeed not heard of Mr Rogers and I like what he said in the article above. His inside seems to match the outside! What a wonderful quality! I'd like to meet many people like him!

A picture of someone I trust? I paint with words ... :) - and love your way of expressing things! So different to mine. So effective!
