We are talking about a backlink, this forums is about SEO so who cares about links with no-follow ? Nobody, therefore I said that he should only focus on links without no-follow tag.
Well in that case I suggest you look up the definition of a backlink. At the very least it helps the indexing of webpages which is very much a part of SEO and I shouldn't have to explain why.
It doesn't have any value if it is no-follow, which value does it have ? only redirecting to other site and that site get visited and indexed by searchbot, what else ? I am in this business more than 5 years, so do not say to me that I should read the definition of backlink.

Backlinks are that links which come on your website from other sites. It may be No-follow or Do-follow links. Even though both is count as backlinks. But Do-follow helps to improve PR.

Ok you can call it a backlink, but every time you use a backlink tracker or any other tool, the tool is counting only links that are without no-follow attribute. Ok, I have not said it like I should, but I mean the same.

In simple words, backlinks are representatives for your site in other site (related sites as well).. Its increases the online popularity for your site hence the credibility of your site increases. While talking about no-follow, its gives traffic to my site even though SE won't crawl my site from that site. So IMHO, no-follow link is also backlink (Yahoo crawls no-follow link in some extent..!)
Backlinks is where search engine identify the links between the two sites, if more sites link to your site, more backlinks you get
