How do I increase my websites page rank? It's currently ranked as a 1. What am I doing wrong and how can I increase my page rank?

Any websites can rank number 1 on google. :) The question is, on what keyword are your ranking high. I suggest you build quality links pointing to your page from high pr sites.

High quality backlinks is the most important factor in increasing a website's page rank. I have a friend and he show me how his new blog gain PR4 one month before the PR update. He told me that he post his links on PR3 above websites.

Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.

So, it sounds like it doesn't matter the topics of the linked pages, just how 'popular' the linked pages are (defined as how many other pages they are linked to and their links are linked to).

Linking are the best way to increase PR, but it is more important that what kind of sites you are choosing or getting for linking. It is really important to link with only relevant sites otherwise it will be never usefully for your site.
